For upmarket boutiques, head to 5th Avenue with its gourmet restaurants and cafés. Third Street and the Avenues continue with the same wonderful street life and café society atmosphere. In Old Naples, art spills out on to the street and Gallery Row sells everything from glassworks to Old Masters. In restaurants, the catch of the day is always recommended and in Everglades City, enjoy stone crab at its freshest from one of the riverside fish markets.

Marco Island boasts miles and miles of beautiful Gulf beaches with safe waters, ideal for children. The kids will also love spotting dolphins, as well as turtles who come to nest in warmer months. Tigertail Beach offers 31 acres of fun and is just across the lagoon from Sand Dollar Bay, one of Marco Island's favourite beach destinations and great for birdwatching. There are shelling tours, catamaran tours, kayaks, snorkelling and parasailing. Join a jet-ski expedition into the swamplands or take advantage of the spectacular sunsets on an evening cruise.

There's a wealth of top-notch 9-hole and 18-hole golf courses on Marco Island to suit both the professional and more easy-going player. Goodlands Fishing Village in the southeast corner of the island is the gateway to the pristine Florida Everglades coastal wilderness with boating and fishing in abundance. There are also plenty of restaurants here in which to relax at the end of a busy day.
