Fabulous from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Couldn't fault it at all. Staff very friendly, all fantastic. Special mention for Katrina who kept our room so clean and tidy. Rashid for always providing us with shade, Andre who kept the drinks flowing, Jaleni for the tasty Blue Smurf cocktail, Andrea who made a wonderful job of my eggs every morning with a smile and banter. Kimberley who lit up reception with her wonderful smile every morning. Room well appointed with large comfy bed, a/c. Fridge/freezer, TV, mosquito diffuser. Bedside table had USB charging points incorporated for 4 cables. Bathroom plenty of towels, White company shampoo conditioner and body wash provided. Had a room overlooking the garden which was full of trees and large plants so no real view but as we only used room to change and sleep it wasn't an issue. Plenty of views from the main area of the hotel and beach. Food in the buffet plentiful and tasty with lots of choice. We didn't go hungry, Afternoon tea provided and if you wanted hotdogs or burgers with chips Colins cafe offered an alternative choice. Evening entertainment was ok Sunday evening trio were fantastic as we were able to get up and dance. Had a wonderful time definitely go again Read less

My mom and I had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Sugar Bay. For us, Sugar Bay was perfect. I read a lot of reviews before we went and was concerned about some of the comments, but for us who love a unique, personal experience, Sugar Bay was just right. This is not a mega resort where you are waited on hand and foot or has tons of dining and activity options. This is a small but well done resort on a beautiful beach where you will not want for much. As a foodie who wanted a local experience, I thought the food was excellent. It felt like very well crafted home cooking. Lots of local flair and not cookie cutter options. If you are a picky eater, there were typically some plainer options like pasta, salads, and fresh carved meats at the carving station every day + burgers and hot dogs at Colin's for lunch, but I think if someone likes to try the local cuisine, this is a great place. I got to try all the local favorites like fish cakes, oxtail stew, cou cou, rice and peas, bbq pig tails, and lots of grilled or fried fish. The creole fish and cou cou at Colin's one lunch was amazing. If you like spicy, their pepper sauce is great all all the restaurants. The beach was the star, for sure. The Watersports guys were always around if you needed an umbrella or anything. They were so genuinely nice and we loved chatting with them. We also watched them show people how to kayak and paddleboard on request. There were always plenty of clean beach towels in the morning and loungers all day. We had been saving our towels from the day before because of some of the reviews and there was no need to do that. We sat on the east side of the beach near Colin's most days. There wasn't "beach service" for the bar exactly. Sometimes someone would come around to ask if you wanted anything, but it was no bother AT ALL to walk 20 feet and order a drink. They would usually bring it to you if you went and ordered it. There are two beach bars and neither of them are far from any beach location. The water was perfect during low tide for swimming and snorkeling. Most days it was also fine during high tide. We did have the seaweed roll in for a couple days, but it was mostly gone once the tide went out. It did not deter us from enjoying the water in the least. No issue with cleanliness on the beach with cups or other litter around as I saw from other reviews. The whole resort was very clean at all times. If you are purely a pool person, the pool is fine, but as others said the loungers would fill up. On our last day we sat by the pool for the morning and there were still some loungers available around 9am. I wouldn't choose this place for the pool, though it was clean, the swim up bar and bartenders were always great, and it was comfortable. Just not the best pool set up I've ever seen, but the beach more than makes up for it. The location is great to get to the Hastings Boardwalk (totally walkable by road or beach - check out the farmers marketing and art on the boardwalk!), Oistins, St. Lawrence Gap, etc. We got an oceanfront room (324), which was always cleaned well and had plenty of tea and all amenities and towels changed everyday. We got to watch the hummingbirds in the tree outside our window who liked the flowers. They have a very nicely manicured garden. As other reviews have mentioned, the staff are excellent all over the resort from the front desk to the waitstaff, bartenders, watersports, bellmen. They were always so helpful and pleasant. It was nice they had the nightly entertainment. Our first night, Thursday, it was very lively with stilt walkers and dancers. The other nights were singers and pretty relaxed. It is not a party resort by any standard so if you are looking for that, I would try somewhere else, but for us it was perfect. I think I covered it all! Thank you Sugar Bay! We would absolutely return. Read less

There are plenty of sunbeds on the beach & the staff will give you an umbrella - if you like the pool better - get up before 6 AM & secure your sunbed. We only used the pool near Collins Bar & there was never anyone in that one - very small pool but suited us fine. Read less
