The hotel

This chic hotel is reputed to have some of the friendliest staff on the island! It's also located across the road from St. Lawrence Bay where the waters are exceptionally shallow at low tide — enabling you to safely walk miles into the ocean (you might see some turtles along the way!). There’s a lovely restaurant on-site or you can head round the corner to the centre of St. Lawrence Gap for some lively nightlife. Refurbished studio rooms have large balconies offering stunning views, a kitchenette and complimentary WiFi.

Really nice small hotel with amazing water views. Staff at front desk are extremely accommodating and helped us with booking a car rental as well as a catamaran boat trip (which was great as well with Tiami). Thanks Monique and all for a great time. As others may have mentioned the hotel is near bars which can have loud music on busy nights. For us, Friday was the louder day. Not a big deal for us, but something to be aware of. The hotel does have a relationship with the bar and can ask to turn the music down :) Read less

The Yellow Bird Hotel is in a fantastic location and the hotel ticks all the required needs. From arrival to leaving the desk staff were friendly and couldn’t do more to help us. The room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable with all the facilities from fridge, microwave, kettle iron etc. The bed was massive with memory pillows really comfy. 10 out of 10 for our room. We ate lots of meals in the restaurant, these where all very tasty with great service, they where a little on the expensive side, this is not down to the establishment but every meal we ate and all the items we bought from the shops is steep compared to the UK. The local bars and eating places where all in easy reach, from very good restaurants to the local Cabin style places, I would encourage you to go to them and eat with the locals, fantastic. There is a little downside, there is a bar close to the hotel that is crazy loud till 3 am you will need to drink large Rums to help you sleep. This didn’t bother most people, I read lots of reviews prior to going and all I would say is I am 65 years old and would not stop me going back. Thank you, Yellow Bird for a great stay. Read less

A little nervous on arrival being handed a physical key and being directed up two flights of stairs to our room a bit addled by 9 hours of flying and about 6 hours of airports and hauling a massive bag with stuff for a 2 week stay, but the hotel quickly grew on me. Desk staff were friendly and efficient. Maintenance staff were also friendly, professional, and efficient. The room was spotless, spacious, and comfortable. The beds slightly worn and a bit springy, but fine. The Air Conditioning (we're from Ireland and we needed it) was on point. The bathroom roomy and clean, good hot water. The fridge and kitchenette were great, and functional. To save a few bucks we made dinner one night (linguine carbonara) and there were enough pots and pans etc to get the job done. The balcony is nice, great view towards Worthing Beach (go there, it's a little less hectic than Dover Beach and Seafood Shack is worth a visit). However, the balcony is made a little uncomfortable by the hot air outlet from the AC equipment (but fantastic to speed up drying damp pool/beach clothes and towels). Food and drink at the On The Bay restaurant/bar were good. Breakfasts were fantastic. The drinks were strong and tasty but a bit watered during Happy Hours. The stay wasn't glitch free: we found booking a tour through the hotel to be a bit tricky (had to make a dash to an ATM to provide a deposit in cash which was book directly through Viator etc and save some hassle), the toilet was blocked on day 2 (quickly and efficiently dealt with by front desk and staff), the gas to the cooker was cut off in the middle of making the aforementioned carbonara (also quickly dealt with), and the toilet handle broke - also pretty quickly dealt with. These are all pretty minor and could happen anywhere. If you're looking for a standard hotel experience in 'The Gap', don't overlook the Yellow Bird. It's comfy and affordable, the staff are great, food prices aren't bad for the area. Get B&B if you can, the breakfasts are really good. If you want to save a few bucks and prepare your own food, skip Clifton Market and go to Trimart Supermarket with local stuff and local prices. If you're looking for direct Beach Access, this is not the spot for you as the tiny beach is kind of a working beach for local fisherman and gets quite rough at high tide. At low tide, it's pretty decent with some walkable sandbars not far out and probably pretty good for snorkelling. From the hotel it's a 5 minute walk to Worthing Beach, and probably a 15 minute walk to the rentable chairs and brollies at Dover Beach. Thanks to Michelle and Monique at the desk for all the help and advice. Read less
