ANdAZ West Hollywood

West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Virgin rating

The hotel

As sleek and understated as it appears from its spot on LA’s legendary Sunset Boulevard, the Andaz West Hollywood is actually a prime slab of Rock ‘n’ Roll history that dates back to 1963. Over the years the likes of The Who’s Keith Moon and The Stones’ Keith Richards have sent TVs flying off the (now enclosed) balconies, while Led Zep drummer John Bonham reportedly rode a motorbike up and down the corridors. Thoroughly renovated for the 21st century the Andaz relishes its history, but these days the musical motifs complement the minimally chic décor in boutique-style rooms rather than run rampant. Indeed, there’s a friendly, unpretentious welcome here that extends from the hotel’s enticing eateries to its breathtaking rooftop pool (where, incidentally, Spinal Tap’s end of tour party was filmed). Rock. And. Roll.

Review would have been 5 star if it hadnt been for problems with the Valet Parking. Hotel is great, centrally located. Staff are very helpful. Rooms are spacious and noise from the street is minimal the higher up you are placed. Be aware of extortionate valet parking fees- $70 per day. Rooms are spacious and noise from the street is minimal the higher up you are placed. Be aware of extortionate valet parking fees- $70 per day. As a word of warning, video your car before each handover. We noticed some damage on our vehicle once we had left the hotel. The damage was not there when it was handed to them but as we had no proof, the valet claimed the damage was there when they received it. Luckily we had full CDW so were not charged for the damage caused ( the vehicle had clearly been reversed into a post). The hotel would not accept liability but issued a full refund for the parking which in my opinion, speaks for itself. Read less

What a brilliant stay we had at the Andaz! From the lovely sunny rooftop pool to the clean, comfy and quiet room, the whole stay was brilliant. The location is also perfect with the Sunset Strip right on your doorstep, there are some great places to eat and drink nearby which are within walking distance - something of a rarity in LA as we discovered! A particular thank you to Nilaja for being so kind and helpful and recommending some great places to eat and visit. If you plan on having a pool day, I recommend to get up there early as it does get busy. We were so pleased with this hotel and would absolutely stay again next time we visit. Thank you Andaz for helping make our trip one of the most fun and memorable ever. Read less

We’ve stayed here three times now and I don’t want to stay anywhere else. Our rooms have always faced the Hollywood Hills so it is perfectly quiet at night. The rooms and lobby are always clean, the beds are super comfortable, there’s never a wait for the elevator, and they have free snacks you can grab on the go daily. We love your hotel! See you… Read more

We've been to LA many times but this was the first time with our Son and grandkids (9 and 14 years) Maybe not the fist choice for a family hotel, but we stayed as the first night after a flight from Australia and wanted somewhere we'd never been to get over jetlag. As a treat I booked The Penthouse for myself and my wife and a normal room for my Son and kids. We're in the live music business, so the history of the hotel isn't lost on us - I know it's not the same as the old Riot House....... but if those walls could talk..... The location is not everyones cup of tea, but we like walking. Even so, there's plenty of food and shopping options pretty close by. It was a better than expected experience..... right from the start where I called the hotel to ask about the possibility of an early check-in as our flight landed at 0630 and they came through with the early check-in for both rooms - VERY appreciated. Easy check in and they explained everything about the hotel. There was a bunch of snacks in the foyer that they said were complimentary (great for the kids). The Penthouse is actually Room #1420 even though the elevator says "PH" to get up there and there are several other rooms on that floor. It's a great room with HUGE bathroom where you can have the blinds open and see the whole of LA and the hills (and they can probably see you), so you can choose to be an exhibitionist or not. Good sized bedroom, king bed with walk-in wardrobe and a great sized living room with kitchenette. The balcony is accessible from the bedroom and lounge room and has some lounging / seating furniture and of course amazing views. There's a TV in the bedroom and Lounge Room and a great sound system and there's even a Peloton bike in the bedroom. On the slight downside, the room does feel a bit old, but that's not such as bad thing. The aircon is a bit on the noisy side I thought. The other room was what I'd call an normal 4+ Star hotel room - ok, but not amazing. The rooftop pool was great for the kids, however, it does quickly get full of people in / on all the cabanas / lounges and it seemed more about tanning / lounging / drinking than actually getting wet. I'd read that the Riot House Restaurant was on the expensive side and they were right - the food and drinks offered are great, but dear and as our Oz Dollar it at about .60 US Cents it's even more expensive so we went out just down Sunset and bought some pizza, wine and other drinks and had a pseudo party in the Penthouse and watched the lights of LA while playing some tunes - tame by the standards of THAT Penthouse, but we called it a homage.... We didn't do breakfast at the hotel. We walked down Sunset to a place 10min away and then kept walking all the way to Rodeo Drive and UBERed back to the hotel. Another nice thing..... I asked for a 1pm Check-Out and the hotel said YES without even flinching (now I know that's not always the case and always subject to availability) - once again ALWAYS appreciated. Andaz is a Hyatt brand and they seem to be looking at a cool / boutique vibe to these properties and this was evident at this Andaz. We liked this hotel and would stay there again. Read less
