Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa

Catamaran Resort and Spa is located on and with direct access to Mission Bay and within walking distance to the Pacific Ocean beach area with restaurants, bars and shopping available. There is a tropical vibe throughout the complex beginning with the lobby and extending out to the grounds with multiple koi ponds, turtles, birds of paradise, palms along with numerous other tropical plants and fauna as well as several species of ducks and parrots. We loved the chaise chairs with accompanying umbrellas on the grassy area near the beach. It provided a very relaxing vibe with great people watching.  The staff was kind and accommodating. We were routinely greeted by all staff when walking around the complex.  Carmen with Oceana Coastal Kitchen and Bar was especially accommodating. She was attentive and quick to respond to our large groups' ongoing requests for drinks and food, always with a smile. Our room overlooked the pool area. At peak pool times we could hear muffled pool noise from children but at night it was peaceful.  The room was spaceous and clean with a large balcony complete with a small table and two chairs.  We appreciated the bathroom sink and mirrors were separate from the shower and toilet area, making it much easier for two people to get ready simultaneously. Lava Java, the lobby coffee shop, was great.  Coffee made to order as well as a selection of pasteries, wraps, fruit cups, yogurt, and other assorted beverages to purchase. Service at the Oceana Costal Kitchen & Bar was always great.  Ambiance was lovely at night with fire pits and torches lit.  The only drawback was the constant flow of foot traffic through the area. It was very distracting and took away from the intimate feel they were trying to create.  It felt like a public freeway to the beach with some people bringing large strollers and bicycles through the narrow walkway. Overall, our stay was great in part due to the staff, service, tropical ambiance and location.  The only drawback was the main gathering area at night being overtaken with foot traffic distracting from the intimate feel. Perhaps a pop evening bar with seated fire pits and torches could be nestled within the inner building complex giving guests a more private area to gather and enjoy the tropical gardens,without the distraction of the general public using the area as a pass through.  ♿️ The lobby, Oceana restaurant, Lava Java as well as the pedestrian walkway to the beach area are handicap accessible for wheelchairs, walkers and canes.  We visited in April 2024 as part of a work retreat so I am unable to review specific aspects such as parking and resort fees.
