The hotel

Transport yourself back in time and stay at the elegant Westgate Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Brimming with decadent furniture, the rooms here are some of the largest in the city, and designed to meet the high standards of European hospitality - so you'll certainly feel at home! If you're visiting between Thursday and Sunday, afternoon high tea in the Grand Lobby is a must. And on these evenings there's a host of live music to be enjoyed in the evenings too, be it out on the Veranda on balmy evenings, or in the Plaza Bar (where you can enjoy it with some delicious light bites and cocktails). The hotel is close to the famous Balboa Park, you can even see it from some of the rooms, and the area has plenty of restaurants, bars and boutiques. Back at the hotel, leave time to enjoy a bit of relaxation at the rooftop pool or in the sauna - the AquaVie fitness and wellness centre spans 4 levels offering a range of classes and treatments to have you feeling rejuvenated.

This hotel has large rooms, comfortable beds, plush pillows, huge TV and a mini refrigerator. The hotel staff goes above and beyond. Mariana at the front desk is delightful and genuinely friendly. Her service is top tier and I will definitely return. This property is within walking distance to tons of restaurants, bars and night clubs.

Walk into a Beauty and The Beast enchanted reception area and dazzled by crystal and grandfather clocks you think will burst into song. Get in the lift and out into dated lemon carpets and odorus corridors. Then into rooms which smell like Grandma's house and probably were last updated around the mid 80s. Open the window for fresh air to be deafened by the trains nearby, close the window to be suffocated by Grandma's house. Turn on the Aircon to be irritated by continuinous clicking. Try to sleep to blinded by the light shining through the gaps in the doors and once again be disturbed by all the noise including the elevators. The gyms extensive and the pool area is lovely. Would I use again, no! Read less

The hotel is so gorgeous and elegant. The staff are so attentive and caring; you can truly see they take a huge amount of pride in where they work. David and Bryan had brilliant customer service skills that shone through the whole stay. You can melt into the bed, the rooms are so spacious and airy with views across the city
