Intercontinental Chicago

Chicago, USA

Virgin rating

The hotel

There are few better properties from where to enjoy the sights of Chicago and if you're hoping to shop 'til you drop or check out Lake Michigan's beaches, the Intercontinental allows you to do so in style. Thanks to a fabulous location right in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, take a visit to the Navy Pier, John Hancock Tower and the Shedd Aquarium which are all within walking distance from your front door. A quick explore of the hotel uncovers a couple of restaurants for all-day dining and there's no better place to enjoy a succulent piece of prime beef other than Michael Jordan's Steakhouse. More sustenance can be found in the ENO bar which has a plentiful selection of wines and cheese, although the Michael Jordan bar is always popular around nightcap time. Finally, if you're thinking up excuses to have a cheeky massage in the Windy City then the Intercontinental's spa* will no doubt be able to twist your arm although, a dip in the indoor pool or a few moments in the sauna also offer equally relaxing alternatives.

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel. Very comfortable bed with an amazing view. I had a king-sized bed on the 37th floor. Close to many things downtown and near the riverwalk. Great for a business trip but definitely priced for how nice it is.

The hotel room is spacious and clean. I like the rooms. The restaurant was another matter. The service was good. We sat in the bar area and had dinner. We arrived at 6 PM on a Sunday and immediately seated. The service was great and our waiter attentive. We had problem with the meal. We order the crab cakes and Tomahawk steak. The steak came out pale and we looked between the slices and noticed it was pan fried. The server admitted the steak looked rare instead of medium rare. One side of each slice was pan fried while the other side was raw. They took the middle slices back to pan fried them more and the dish did not look appetizing when it returned. Some of the slices were overcook. It looked like a pile of meat next to a large bone. They ruined a perfectly good piece of meat. My son was already eating his meal so we eat the steak. You would assume they know how to cook a steak at a steakhouse. The chef should have never let that dish out of the kitchen. Hotel 5 star Restaurant 1 star Read less

Fantastic location with world-class, swimming pool and fitness facility. Helpful staff were very accommodating. I stay at this hotel every time I come to Chicago and I highly recommend it to others especially those who want to burn off a few calories of that heavy Chicago food.

This is a lovely historic hotel on Michigan Avenue. It is a full service hotel and did not disappoint. In addition to a very clean room and a nicely updated modern decor, the Michael Jordan Steakhouse on the main floor offered a typical menu with outstanding execution. I give very high marks for the delicious Braised Short Ribs on pasta with a truffle butter sauce and side of brussel sprouts. A must-see is the eye-popping indoor swimming pool in the fitness center. I am sure you and your children will enjoy this amenity. In summary this is a hotel definitely worth exploring. Read less
