Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach

Big Island, Hawaii

Virgin rating

The hotel

Located on the grounds where Hawaii’s most famous king once ruled, this is a stunning hotel, contemporary in feel with top notch amenities. Overlooking one of the best snorkelling bays in Hawaii, it’s a must for water sports fans as well as those who simply enjoy a beautiful beach to lie on. Shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance but there’s plenty to keep you entertained on-site. During high season, the Island Breeze Lu’au is one of the Big Island’s most popular events. As well as a sumptuous Hawaiian buffet to feast on, with dishes cooked in a traditional underground oven, dramatic Hawaiian and Polynesian entertainment ensures an unforgettable evening for all. Before the feasting and dancing even begins, outrigger canoes carrying the royal court glide past the ancient Hawaiian temple on the seaward border of the hotel, an incredible spectacle you’ll want to capture on camera! Honu’s Restaurant is also a treat, overlooking the beachfront and complete with firepits so you can linger long after the sun has set. For more casual fare, Billfish Bar serves dishes such as calamari ‘fritte’ and seafood cobb salad as well as signature cocktails. To work off all that delicious food, there’s a recently opened tennis centre with two championship hard courts as well as hiking and biking through glorious state parks.

If you want a protected piece of beach with no waves for the kids to splash around in this may be the place for you. Our room also came with free buffet breakfast which was nice. If you want a great view go somewhere else. The view is spoiled by a huge ugly commercial pier right behind the hotel. Our waterfront room overlooked first the large ugly rooftop of the restaurant then the beach and pier. The room was just ok but starting to show wear. Common areas were very nice and new looking and there is an abc store onsite. Read less

We live in Kona, but today went to the King Kam for their Buffet Breakfast, $30.00 each. On the way out, my friend had to use the bathroom. She asked two different employees to unlock the ladies room door. They both Refused! That is ILLEGAL as HELL. If you serve food to the public, you have to let the public use the bathroom!!! On day 3, housekeeping entered our room when they weren’t supposed to and after that our $50 ear thermometer on the bathroom countertop went mysteriously missing. Odd thing to take, but it was gone. After 2 weeks and multiple phone calls, hotel says they cannot find it and can’t corroborate this, so therefore cannot do anything to replace. Marriott customer service won’t do anything either. Rethink considering a stay at this hotel or any other Marriott property based on this lack of concern and action by Marriott. Read less

We booked a year ago and are Marriott members. Stay with Marriott regularly for business. This is the worst Marriott/hotel I have stayed at. First the room was sold as a great room with a view of the luau. When we got to the room it was a great view of the 1st floor rooftop. Then the toilet had a big brown diarrhea stain down the side. So I went downstairs, waited in line, to have them tell us there was no other room and would send someone to clean it. As I am writing this it’s been over an hour with no housekeeping in sight. So I decide to check out the rest is the room….makeup stains on the pillows and stains on the blanket. My husband then went downstairs again to complain and they are suppose to come immediately to change the sheets and clean but still no one has come. Frequent travelers and have never seen anything like this. Oh and to top it off, the pool is closed for renovation so no pool and a lot of construction noise. It’s actually highly unbelievable. The hotel was very nice and updated. The location made it easy to walk to many attractions. The onsite beach made it very convenient, with plenty of access available. An ABC store was onsite, as well as other shops. There was a luau located at the hotel that was well worth the extra money. The only downside was that the pool was under renovation… Read more
