Royal Kona Resort

The hotel

An established resort hotel, the Royal Kona is surrounding by 12 acres of tropical landscape, just steps from the sea. Its laid-back ambience ensures a relaxing stay with amenities such as an oceanfront swimming pool and a private swimming lagoon to tempt you. There are also tennis courts for those who’ve remembered to pack their whites and a fitness centre for keeping trim. A hot favourite we think will be the Mai Tai Bar, not only serving 10 types of Mai Tai’s but set in a spectacular location, against the backdrop of Kailua Bay. The Breezaway Lounge is also idyllic, with sofas and armchairs strategically placed to offer full ocean views. Grab yourself a seat, a Mai Tai (of course!) and admire dazzling sunsets night after night. At Don the Beachcomber, the dining is as sumptuous as the view, fusing Asian inspiration and European technique to create the most delightful of dishes. Not to be missed is the Lu’au — a feast of tropical delicacies, song and dance celebrating the legends and lore of Polynesia, the dramatic Fire Dance finale is breathtaking!

Our stay was really nice. Staff is very friendly, rooms are clean, beds and pillows are comfortable. The breakfast we had was amazing! I highly recommend the French toast! I will say it is old, some areas could definitely use some TLC. However, it appeared that everything in Kona is old and run down to different degrees.

This resort is central to downtown walking restaurants and shops. The restaurant and bar at resort is very festive as it overlooks the water. Our room had a beautiful balcony and view although it was dated the bed was comfortable and room size sufficient. Our only wish would have been a stronger water pressure for our shower and our AC blower was very loud. The grounds were beautiful lots of flowers and birds and the view of the lava rock and ocean splendid. Another bonus is a luau can be seen at this resort with tickets which is also a bonus. You have to pay for parking but it is necessary because it is limited downtown. Overall I would recommend and stay here again. One last thing, umbrellas are needed at the pool. Read less

Parking is $25 per day with in and out privileges. I HATE THAT THEY CHARGE FOR PARKING AND SOME NIGHTS DON'T EVEN HAVE ENOUGH SPACES. Housekeeping took MY personal washcloth that I brought from home and lost it. The housekeeping manager has not called me to return or replace it. If I were to lose one of their towels, I am sure as HELL that they… Read more

We had a corner king ocean view. Absolutely incredible to have a wrap around balcony, sliders on both sides of the room, and the sound of the ocean all around us. Mai at the front desk, and Kevin, the manager, are amazing at their jobs. They made up for how upset I was at the circumstance that brought us there. They were compassionate, understanding, gracious and are clearly in the right industry. They are who I needed that night and I’m grateful they were working when we arrived. The restaurant was very nice. There’s a little store onsite too which I appreciated. The lagoon and pool were lovely. We didn’t get into either with our schedule but next time, there WILL be a next time, we are planning to have more resort time and less Kona noise time… Parking wasn’t expensive and we were always able to find a space close to our building. Don’t hesitate to book here. Do yourself a favor and stay at this place. We cannot wait to go back and are so glad we found it! Read less
