203 guestrooms across 27 floors, all featuring an eclectic art collection and vintage design details, along with air conditioning, safe, hairdryer, handheld steamer, organic bath products, TV. and complimentary WiFi access.Cozy Rooms are smaller in size with one queen-size bed sleeping maximum 2 people. 


Two twin beds or two queen-size beds can be requested at an extra cost

Spacious rooms are larger in size with views of Hudson Yards or the Theatre District, with either 1 king-size bed, 1 queen-size bed, or 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 adults. 

2nd Floor Lounge (open for breakfast daily, and features a full cocktail bar open Thursday – Saturday evenings). Rosevale Kitchen and Cocktail Room (elevated American dining – opening soon). Starchild (rooftop lounge serving drinks and light bites – opening soon). 

TMPL Health Club* with gym, salt water pool, steam room and sauna located just one block north of the hotel.

This is a repeat visit -- and it gets better every time. The staff is extraordinary, the response to questions and needs was exceptional. In short, CIVILIAN has become my place of choice for my trips to NYC. All of the front of house staff is always so welcoming and I love that make you well welcome and all have gone above and beyond. I have stayed in many of the rooms - and larger or small - they are all very clean and efficient. As a theater professional love the vibe and design. Awesome place. Very happy to be there always. I spent two nights at the Civilian and loved the property's unique character. The hotel has a great location if you plan to go to a show during your stay. I had tickets for Carnegie Hall, which was within walking distance. The room is well-designed and has stunning views from the upper floor and a beautifully appointed bathroom. I don't know if I could stay for an extended time due to the relatively small rooms, but for a short visit, this hotel is perfect. I rate this stay with four stars and not five because there is no place for food during the daytime, only in the evenings. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay; thank you! Read less

The housekeeping staff accidentally discarded my husband's $600 dental guard during our stay. It was not in the bathroom, it was not wrapped in tissue, it was not in any way hiding among trash. It was in its proper case, sitting on the stand next to the bed. Yet after the housekeeping serviced our room, it was missing. We immediately reported it… Read more
The housekeeping staff accidentally discarded my husband's $600 dental guard during our stay. It was not in the bathroom, it was not wrapped in tissue, it was not in any way hiding among trash. It was in its proper case, sitting on the stand next to the bed. Yet after the housekeeping serviced our room, it was missing. We immediately reported it to the front desk, emailed the manager, and filed a NYPD police report. Yet the response has been, for weeks, that they can't do anything about it because there's no proof and their insurance only covers goods valued at least $1500. Of course there's no proof, but there is strong evidence. We didn't take the dental guard while out sight-seeing. We tore the room inside out looking for it before we departed. It had to have been the staff. The irony is that for a hotel whose website literally says, "a hotel that transcends the bounds of traditional hospitality," we did not experience any hospitality in this matter. I can't believe there is no way to make good on this negligence. Read less

The three young men greeting us at check in on April 28th were extraordinary. We danced together each that time we passed through! Traveling with my adult daughter with disabilities, they provided comfortable accommodations to meet her needs. The unique decor makes Civilian a delight to explore. Each floor, and seemingly room, brings a new surprise. Broadway and showbiz photos & memorabilia; exceptional views from the Starchild roof top bar. Enjoyed a nicely prepared pre-theater dinner at Rosevale. Great location. Exceptionally comfortable bed! I look forward to staying here again! Read less
