The hotel

Broadway, Times Square, Radio City Hall - just some of the iconic New York attractions that are pretty much right at your doorstep when you stay at the brand new Tempo by Hilton New York Times Square. Housed in a 46-storey building you enter the lobby on the 11th floor - elevated from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Midtown, so you already feel as if you're in your own haven. The hotel itself is stylish and modern, offering both comfort and functionaltiy for solo travellers and couples alike. The outdoor terrace at Highball is a particular highlight. Look over the heart of the city whilst you enjoy innovative cocktails and delicious sharing plates, whatever time of day! There are bicycles available to explore futher out, but if you want to keep your feet on the ground - there's so much within walking distance, and you're never far from a subway station either.

First, the positives. The room was clean and comfortable and everything worked. I was on a high floor and the street noise was minimal. The staff were all well trained, very pleasant and helpful. Next, the disappointments. These are mostly about the room design, which in my view is flawed, so not a criticism of the Management, but of the room designer. The room was a King, City view. There was no wardrobe, just an open hanging space. The few drawers provided were only about two or three inches deep - useless for most purposes. There were no rails in the bathroom on which to hang towels (except for one for the bath mat). There were no glasses in the bathroom and just paper cups by the coffee machine. Who on earth would design a room like that? Next the contents of the room. There was no hotel guide in the room - restaurant details and so on. The TV refers you to the Hilton Honors App for a hotel guide, but I could find nothing there of significance. You had to scan a QR code from a picture by the TV. Why make it so convoluted, why not just provide a small paper leaflet? No iron or ironing board in the room - pretty much standard, I would have thought. There was a Nespresso machine, but only paper cups. The coffee was probably good in itself, but came with a cardboard taste from the cup. Did not eat in the restaurant. From what I could tell from the website, it seemed to be a cocktail bar which also served food, and a couple of times when I walked past there seemed to be loud, thumping music. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, of course. Also a couple of good diners for breakfast in W44th Street. As a footnote, like many visitors from the UK, I hate the concept of a ‘destination fee’, which seemed just a way of disguising a higher room rate. It covered a $25 parking credit (but who brings a car to Manhattan?), City Bike rentals (I wonder how many visitors use the bikes?), wi-fi (surely wi-fi is standard in 2024?) and a $10 F&B credit (not much use if you don’t use the cocktail bar). Still, pretty much all the hotels in Manhattan seem to use this wheeze now, so I can’t hold that against the Tempo, whose destination fee was lower than most. I only hope the practice does not come to the UK! Read less

At first, we had a low expectations towards this hotel due to the complains that we read online. But when we arrived, Mr. Erskine welcome us with respect and clear explanation. Gym was nice, room was comfortable, location is superb, definitely in one of the best spot in nyc.

Recently stayed at this property for work trip. Normally would not seek to stay so close to Times Square but location fit work needs. We were abundantly pleased with this hotel. Newly renovated with good size NYC room with incredibly helpful and friendly staff! We were fortunate to check/in a bit early with the efficient assistance of Grey at front desk. When we were having trouble finding our room, housekeeper Tanzin didn’t hesitate to walk us to our destination. A major plus is housekeeping cleans each day. Entire property very clean. We also had very pleasant experience being served by Gregory in the Highball Lounge. Incredibly personable and helpful. Kudos for hiring such a remarkable staff, Hilton. We highly recommend this Hilton Tempo property! Read less
