Virgin Hotels New York City

I'm a furious, hard-working single Mom who brought my wonderful teen with me overnight for Mother's Day to Virgin Hotels and I booked AND FULLY PAID through Expedia for the room BEFORE getting to the hotel. When I arrived they took my credit card for their $35 resort fee and incidentals for $100, but the inexperienced person at reception kept saying that he didn't know how to deal with not charging me for the room after I had already paid through Expedia - WHAT???!!! Then another receptionist showed him what to do - I thought - until I got home and there were $500 worth of charges on my credit card!! Then they gave me a receipt that added $198! They have all of these drinks and bags of chips that they make money from in the room and we had one bag of chips knowing that we would be charged for everything, so that was the only thing they could have charged for which would be $6 - 8. I tried to reach someone in billing and the person who answered at the front desk said, "yeah, the manager sees that we 'messed up' and she's going to reverse some charges". I asked to speak to the manager and I was told she wasn't around and I could not get proof of the charges they "messed up" on, or any proof of the conversation other than a first name. Today there were hundres of dollars more on my credit card that they had taken for incidentals and I just had to make a dispute with my credit card. No one from the hotel has called me back and you cannot reach their business office at all. Also know that the POOL does not work now, and IT IS OUTSIDE. You must pay to use the sauna which is part of their spa. When I came in, the mattress cover was covered in small brown stains and I had to ask room service to change the bed. Nice new pretty hip Virgin hotel in NYC in nomad. There are kinks to be worked out but I would rate it a “good”. Pluses are some amazing views (I had a high floor suite) from rooms and rooftop space. Rooms have some unique touches and amenities. (The obligatory condom so early 2000). The elevators are a nightmare and need to be changed. Impossible to navigate. Spa looks terrific. Lobby could use more seating. Room service could be more interesting. Nice bar area and friendly servers. I’d stay here again just for the views. Read less

The hotel room was clean and well appointed (and bigger thank expected). I paid for a sky chamber with a view of the Empire State, which did not disappoint. The hotel was central and it was easy to get both downtown and uptown on the subway. The hotel let itself down on something small, but important - the coffee!!! The room came equipped with a coffee machine and was supplied with the coffee capsules and creamer etc all ready for our first morning! Unfortunately after the first day, it appeared to be a significant challenge to supply the correct sized coffee pods. After much liaison with the reception staff, on a daily basis, it became apparent that some rooms (including ours) had different coffee machines which took different t sized coffee pods. Housekeeping could not replenish our coffee pods correctly first time - we resorted to leaving notes in the room to explain with varying success. Read less

The Virginia Hotel was in a great location, but I was really impressed by the friendly staff, especially Endric, my bellman on the day I checked out. The roads were closed that day, so we weren’t able to call an Uber ourselves, but Endric was able to call us a cab and bring our luggage to the pick-up point. Next time we’re in Manhattan, we will definitely stay here again. Read less
