This is our second visit so we knew what to expect. It was our honeymoon and as such we chose to pay double what we did last year to have a room overlooking the safari park. We were given a ground floor room with disabled access and a hoist over the bath.. The view is the one thing we had hoped for and all we could see were sunbathers and umbrellas. Despite paying an awful lot of money the furniture was poorly maintained and in poor state. (This room was over £450 per night). The game reserve did not disappoint and as I said in my previous post, this is a private game reserve and although feels "staged" the animals are well cared for. A shout out to Josh our game driver, who made it fun and was very informative. The food was poor and I am sure I became ill after a prawn chow main dish (the uncooked prawns were in a bowl uncovered) and I have severe D &V. There was poor signage on the food so you had to prize the staff apart who were chatting together to ask them what was in the dishes. If you were vegan you would struggle. The fact that no fluids is included in what is already an expensive price is poor. The bar was not as nice as before, in fact, we went upstairs the first night and there was football on all the TVs so more of a sports bar. Such a shame. The staff were friendly enough but we had to ask to be served wine at the table. They even ran out of Rose at lunch time on the second day, had some in the evening, then ran out again....The staffs uniforms were tired and inconsistent and it definitely wasn't as slick as last time. Whilst waiting for our room change (to a fab room on top floor with great views and honeymoon petals -thank you to Gertrude) we went across the road to the Ecosynergy tour at the Animal rescue Centre. This is SO UNDERVALUED- its an amazing free tour where we learnt a great deal form out guide and would really recommend this. We finally moved to our new room on the third floor with amazing views - sadly the carpet was rucked up (a real trip hazard) and the mattress was in an appalling state as we saw the next day when we stripped the bed. We love it here but won't be back. The costs are far too much for value with decreasingly poor food, staff wearing pretty bad uniforms and no water provided. The Reserve does look after its animals but some of our costs would be well spent on upgrading the facilities for the guests who are over paying Read less

This experience is a tad stage managed and the buffet food is alright . Staff were excellent . The ‘wild’ animals viewed in a natural habitat are not to be missed . Our guide Nicolas was knowledgeable and very helpful. The scenery is absolutely stunning. From our lodge (10) we woke to watch the moon set from one window while the sun rose in the other as the bird song competed with the frogs and a herd of buffalo walked by in the distance . Magical. Aquila offers a unique opportunity to see semi-wild animals up close, ideal for those based around Cape Town. While not a true safari, it provides a memorable experience with a friendly guide and ample photo opportunities. The animals appeared healthy and calm, and it would have been great to understand more about their rescue or wildlife status. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable, but lunch was more standard, and poolside relaxation is best suited for warmer weather. Overall, it's a worthwhile half day visit, though perhaps not for an overnight stay. Read less

Had a memorable two-day trip to Aquila Private Game Reserve, the closest safari experience to Cape Town! Despite some chilly, rainy weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our guide was wonderful—friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable about the animals, making every game drive interesting and engaging. Our room had breathtaking views over the reserve, giving us a true sense of being in the wild. While the buffet was average, we appreciated the variety. The spa facilities had a few drawbacks, with the steam room out of service and additional fees for the small pool, but it was still a relaxing spot. Overall, a great getaway for a taste of safari close to Cape Town! Read less

It felt like a zoo with more space than an average zoo. they just put 4 of the big five in a nature reserve and that’s it. It’s not that they live in nature nature in their natural habitat and the lions are beautiful but live with just 4 off them in a separate space where they feed them. Luckely it is always better then riding the animals or get pictures with them like in some countries but it felt a little weird. Read less
