The hotel

Not just a hotel, Zilwa Attitude is more of an experience, embracing the life of the islanders. With a relaxed village feel, it is packed with authentic Mauritian experiences so you’ll truly feel like one of the natives after a week or two here. In a beautiful location, overlooking endless stretches of sandy beach and with stunning views of no less than five islands, it is a slice of heaven. Just a few minutes away by boat, or a short paddle, is Grand Zil where you can while away a few hours on a lounger and perhaps tuck in to a barbecue lunch — or enjoy a rejuvenating massage on the smaller Ti Zil. Rooms are inspired from traditional seaside bungalows and are contemporary in design but rustic too with rough white-washed walls and brushed cement floors. Embracing bright colours, there's a choice of room types, as well as family rooms, apartments and suites by the sea. Book a treatment at the world-class spa and take some time to chill on a day bed in the relaxation garden whilst listening to the twitter of birdsong. As you kick back, the little ones will be kept happy at the kids' club, with a fun garden, a games room and a large boat to explore and escape the sun ! There are seven restaurants at Zilwa, offering cuisines from European to Creole, Indian and Asian, and the All Inclusive dine-around experience means you can discover wonderful varied meals each day of your stay.

Review of Zilwa Attitude Hotel, 10-20 November. Just back from a wonderful holiday at Zilwa and thought some photos and a review from us may help up and coming guests. We stayed in a superior room which overlooked the gardens with the sea visible. Lovely room - all mod cons - 1 English socket, 3 French so glad we took adapters. Using a 4 plug extension cable blew the fuse so wouldn’t recommend - although easily sorted by friendly maintenance team. Shampoo and shower gel and body lotion in the room but preferred our own. Hairdryer and anti mosquito plug in supplied, mini safe, umbrella and great shaving/makeup mirrors - one with magnification. Mini bar is self stocked by your choice of cans of beer or soft drinks from the “shop” where you can also get servings in paper bags of crisps/nuts etc. water bottles also need collected from bar or shop (2 bottles had been left in room on night of arrival) - were recommended to not use tap water for tooth brushing. All pools were great but we mainly used the adult pool, family pool or kids pool as closer to main bar. The pools were warm but refreshing for this time of year - I don’t think all are heated all year but for us they were perfect. Quite a few younger children during our stay - mainly under 5s due to not being school holidays - some families were quite noisy from 6.30am onwards so worth considering if you are wanting adult only vibe - the adult pool also overlooks the family pool so is not as tranquil as other hotels we have experienced. Food and drinks - Lor Disab - amazing - 5 star beach restaurant - highly recommend the beef (fillet) and the crème brûlée was out of this world. The prawn tempur starter and the tomato and goat cheese was also highly recommended. Manao - Thai - setting beautiful, ask for a veranda table to overlook the Thai inspired garden. Food was good - would give it a 4 star rating. Tadaka - Indian - loved this place - curries were outstanding and the cheese naan was delicious - you can see the food being cooked by the chefs - give them a wave as they deserve it - 5 star rating. Lot Nou - traditional Mauritian food - Mauritian cocktail on arrival full of flavour, 6 tapas dishes on the menu which you choose 3 per person - I loved them all but a little adventurous and spicy for my adult daughter - if you like spicy you will love it, for conservative eaters it may be a challenge - 5 star rating - Noorina is also a very lovely lady here. Karay - buffet style main restaurant (no booking needed) - not my favourite - canteen style atmosphere, noisy, food quite often cold. I wanted to like it so went 3 times for dinner but ended up just sticking to pizza which was good on most nights. Would give this a 2 star rating for dinner. Breakfast in Karay is self service - great selection of cooked breakfast eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, beans. Don’t overlook the local fried treats at the end - samosas and battered vegetables with spicy dips - lovely. Great croissants, pain au chocolate and cold meats, cheeses, fruits, juices etc. Activities - Animation team were so much fun - Cirby, Anivet, Fabian made us laugh every day. We didn’t have time to try all but archery, beach yoga/pilates, tennis, water polo, aqua aerobics, sailboats, pedalos, canoes, glass bottom boat all worth trying. Visit to Grand Zil BBQ a must - food was great, lots of sun loungers in the sea, wading onto private island, sea hammocks - lovely experience. Drinks - we were all inclusive so stuck to local spirits and beers - enjoyed them but pool service can be hit and miss and very slow if on the beach. Make friends with the pool waiters though and they often visit. Entertainment - dj nights and local live singers - looked good but we were usually tired after a long day of relaxing in the sun so listened from our balcony. The staff at this resort are a true credit to the hotel. We loved their friendliness and attitude. Any issues we raised were really handled well by the management team - they truly care for making your experience positive. Met lots of lovely guests and staff members while visiting for 10 days - a really wonderful holiday - you lucky future guests! Now back to -1 and snow in Blighty 😂 Read less
