Hotel Del Coronado

The hotel

‘The Del’ as the Coronado is known as has been open for business since 1888 and is a designated National Historic Landmark! Indeed, it’s been the backdrop to many a Hollywood movie, including Some Like it Hot starring Marilyn Monroe. The last of California’s stately old seaside hotels, it is a monument to Victorian grandeur with virtually no two rooms alike and a sumptuous wood panelled lobby that has to be seen to be believed. Recent additions include Shore House at The Del, an elevated hotel experience in an extraordinary neighborhood of seaside villas. From an oceanfront pool that blends seamlessly into the horizon, to an inviting living room that flows effortlessly outdoors, Shore House offers an extraordinary sense of place, where family and friends form deep connections in a rare beachside setting. The Del's newest restaurant inside the beautifully restored Laundry building. Dine outside on the lawn and watch the action at the BBQ Pit or gather inside the historic brick building beneath vaulted ceilings and the Laundry's original conveyor system. Pull up a stool at the historic wooden bar from the 1880s for inventive cocktails, beer and wine.

Amazing staff, super friendly and helpful! But most of all, is the closeness to the beach. If you crave beautiful sunsets or beach access this hotel is perfect for you. For how expensive it is, I think the rooms could have been overall “better” but the beach evens it out.

Price: The valet charges $45 for the first two hours with $15 off if you spend over $100, which you will. Once in the interior of the building you will be tansported to an earlier time when hotels were elegant destinations. Beatiful woodwork through out the building. After viewing the interior we made our way out the beach area and found a table overlooking the beach with all it's activities. It's a perfect spot for people viewing. We ordered cocktails and each of us (3 in our party) ordered from the sandwich menu and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Price: Sandwiches with fries for three $236 with tip. Is it worth a visit? Absolutely. Knowing it's pricey before you visit helps but it's worth every penny. We loved the experience. Enjoy! Read less

Our recent 5 night Fall Break stay at the Hotel del Coronado was delightful, enhanced by beautiful October weather and truly excellent service. A standout was Chris at the pool bar, who went above and beyond to make sure our picky-eater daughter enjoyed her lunch by the pool. When she didn’t care for the sauce on her burger, he quickly brought her fresh lettuce and tomatoes to customize it to her liking—a small gesture that meant a lot to us as parents! The ongoing construction didn’t affect our stay at all, and we found the maid service thorough and attentive. Our room—located on the 5th floor in the Views—was modern, clean, and comfortable with a beautiful view. As Diamond members, we were upgraded at check-in, and we decided to further upgrade our experience by paying an additional $100 per night for an ocean view room. This was absolutely worth it; the view made our stay even nicer. We went into town several times, and enjoyed gelato at Nado Gelato, quick and reasonably priced Mexican food at Miguel’s, and a delightful Italian dinner with friends at Garage Buona Forchetta. The restaurants in the hotel were also tasty, if extravagantly priced. Overall, the Hotel del Coronado exceeded our expectations, especially after reading some (in my opinion) overly critical TripAdvisor reviews. We’d happily stay here again, and look forward to the next time! Read less

Service was lacking in many areas. Areas of management didn’t seem to know what they were doing. We were told we couldn’t have another couple over to our firepit room. If this were the case we should have been told this when checking in. Yoga calendars were incorrect. The beach cabana firepit rooms were also told they couldn’t have “company” even… Read more

If this were the case we should have been told this when checking in. Yoga calendars were incorrect. The beach cabana firepit rooms were also told they couldn’t have “company” even though the patios clearly fit 6-8. Not sure Hilton has it together since its purchase of the property. I wouldn’t stay here again. Too expensive for what you got. Oh and don’t book a firepit room in The Views building, you I literally in a basement with huge foliage blocking your view of ANYTHING. Second time staying here; it was an organizational catastrophe the first time. I don’t know why I have it a second try. They canceled one of our rooms without telling us, then up charged us for re-reserving it when we arrived. All this took over half an hour at check in, during which the front desk person (Summer) laughed at us for our inconvenience. We get to our (up charged) rooms finally, and the ‘view’ of the ocean is a second floor that is blocked by a tree. The non view room is along an alley way that service carts travel all night making a huge amount of noise. My mother is very ill and this was supposed to be her last big trip. She can’t even see the ocean. Read less
