Coconut Court Beach Hotel

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

About as ‘seaside’ as you can get, the Blades family have called this sand-hugging spot home for more than four decades. And they chose a pretty perfect beach for their hotel — which is probably why hundreds of Hawksbill marine turtles call it home too. As you’re here for the beach, the Blades have made sure you’re never far from it, whether you’re lazing on the free loungers, watching moonlight movies on the sands, soaking in the seafront pool and whirlpool, sipping frozen cocktails at the beach bar, or lingering over candlelit suppers at The Deck. The beach itself is lined with beautiful trees to provide natural shelter from the Caribbean rays, so those that don't wish to worship the sun need not worry. It’s not just by the beach though — it’s also steps from South Coast Boardwalk which links you to an array of shops, restaurants and Rockley Beach. The hotel also features an open air restaurant overlooking the white sand beach. Above all else, do not forget to savour a Pirate Punch during one of the several 'happy hours' each day — a traditional Blades family recipe with a twist!

BA app invited me to rebook next available flight ( 3 days later). 12pm next day hotel manager advised that BA has informed all customers that they were all rebooked on the next days flight.(aircraft repaired) but I insisted that I was booked 3 days later. They blocked my room insisting if I stay cost is down to me not BA. With 1 hours notice had to pack a flee to the airport. Arriving at airport turns out that no such booking existed and no such instructions were given by BA. advised that I go back to the hotel. Moral of the story is that the hotel manger he is a bare faced, absolute lier and virtually none of the BA cancelled clients were informed about anything and no such instruction about fees existed. BA we’re obligated to cover costs. Absolute disgrace that caused major upset for many guests. It’s a BA holidays hotel, so presume acting on BA’s behalf and cost protection. What a disgrace….. Food was average. Drinks were usually supplied in plastic cups. Most staff were friendly. Pictures are over exxaggerated to what is offered. Wasn't in the best location for accessing other bars or restaurants. Read less

Just got back from here after staying for two weeks in June after being recommended. First impressions were very basic from the outside. Reception area small but inviting. Check in was smooth and was offered a rum punch while waiting. There is a $500 BDS surcharge, but you get that back when you check out as long are there are no damage or you have not charged anything to your room. There is no lift but there was staff to take up my suitecase to the top floor (3 flights, but not steep). Opened door to a very large, clean, cool inviting room with a lovely view. I think photos on site give a good impression re decor, but the rooms are larger. Bed large. kitchenette basic, small and clean with fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle and decent size sink. Set of three of everything in drawer. Also hairdryer, iron and ironing board in large wardrobe (which had a decent amount of hangers) as well as a safe. Bathroom had a large, modern walk in shower, usual modern sink and toilet. All towels etc in bathroom, crisp and white. Towels included two blue for the beach. Outside oh3pened out to pool with sunbeds and umbrellas, outside shower as well as two cocktail areas. One of which is had almond trees which provided shade. There was also a resturant/Cocktail bar where you could get breakfast lunch and dinner. Cocktails were two for one all day but they changed according to the day. There is also Jakes across the road for cocktails, lunch or dinner. Beach was stunning and although there was a LOT of seaweed on the beach for a day or two it soon cleared. Did not stop swimming or sunbathing. Sunbeds provided for free. No umbrellas but there is plenty of shade from trees if shade required. The hotel, bedroom and outside areas were clean, and inviting and ALL staff where wonderful. Sheets changed every day. Towels/bathmat changed if required (leave on floor). Air con was excellent. Pool was cleaned every morning before opening. There is an outside shower. The Boardwalk was very nearby and if you took a walk along there were plenty of bars and restaurants including Chefette. I had a lovely stay at this hotel, but I have two comments where I personally think could be improved. 1. FOOD. I was really hoping for some traditional Bajan food even if it was once a week. I believe there was bajan chicken wings which was smothered in a sauce at JAKES. At the hotel there was fishcakes (very good) and the bajan omelette (tasty) and a fish cutter with local fish but that was it. No Sous, Cou Cou, Macaronni Pie, Rice and Pidgeon Peas, Baked Chicken or Flying fish. I found the food very American and was hoping for some local dishes. I had to leave and take a bit of a walk for that kind of food, which I and a few other customers thought was a bit of a shame. 2. ENTERTAINMENT. We attended the Movie Night on the Beach on our second night and lying under the stars on a sunlounger eating hot popcorn and drinking cocktails was wonderful and were were really looking forward to the other entertainment. Which were all cancelled apart from 1, where a live band played one night and they were brilliant. Calypso night, Managers cocktail party, Sip and Paint and another band all cancelled. Staff were unsure if events were taking placed if asked and most nights a flyer was slipped under the door informing us that the next event was cancelled. No reason given. All in all I had a good time and would return. The critiques about food and entertainment did not ruin my holiday, but if they improved on this then it would have been even better as I cannot fault the hotel, location or staff. Would I visit Coconut Court Beach Hotel again? YES! I plan to next year Would I recommend this hotel? YES! And have already done so. Coconut Court....See you next year and thank you. Read less

Fantastic pool and the location on the beach was second to none. Reasonably priced drinks and the food was good in both the hotel and Jakes restaurant across the road. When we arrived we were welcomed by Laurence with complimentary rum punch. The staff served drinks to our sun beds around the pool and there was also a beach bar.10 minute walk to some great restaurants and local bars that served potent cocktails !Only small downside that there was no lift for those on the higher floors. Thanks to all at coconut court. We will be back Read less

Very nice hotel, although lots of steps, no lift. Was disappointed with trip to St Nicholas Abbey that I booked via them & paid $250. House had only 2 rooms we could enter. Total rip off. Just over 3 hours in total, which included time to get there. Beware, book direct with Abbey yourself.
