The hotel

Nestled in beautiful tropical gardens, Paradise Cove Boutique Hotel is a gorgeous adults-only boutique hotel, offering guests a secluded retreat from the world. Aptly named, it really is paradise here with a pristine white beach and exceptional views of the lagoon and the northern islands from the peninsula. Highly romantic, the resort even offers ‘love nest’ twin sun beds. Also recommended is a visit to Spa Cinq Mondes. Not only does it boast a pool, hammam and flower baths, you can treat yourself to an Indian Ayurvedic massage — sure to banish any lingering cares! At the Paradise Cove, water sports are very much the order of the day, from snorkelling to water-skiing. Come dusk, Stay Bar is the place to sip on tropical cocktails whilst admiring the sunset. There’s live and unplugged music here too but first enjoy dinner at a choice of restaurants. For local dishes, the Dining Room is ideal or experience Asian fusion cuisine at XO. For a real treat, book a table at The Cove — highly romantic, tables for two are set in small huts, right on the beach, beside a coconut grove.

We stayed here for six nights from 6th to 12th November and had a wonderful stay after a shaky start. We were already in Mauritius and arrived from a sister hotel. First impressions of the resort were peace, luxury and tranquility. Our first concern was that it seemed we were down with the resort to stay only four nights rather than the six we had booked so that needed to be sorted. We had three hours to wait for the 2pm check in time. The sister hotel upon arrival had allowed us to go to lunch and get a drink at the broke awaiting check in but we were not told we could do this here. Not sure if this is policy or an oversight but it would have been nice to have been able to grab some lunch. Fortunately the tea bar had a nice selection of teas and biscuits so we certainly didn’t dehydrate and go hungry! At 2pm we were taken to our room and found that the aircon unit wasn’t working properly. We found that out by my slipping on a puddle of water and fortunately falling onto the bed rather than the floor. So, our first hour was spend having the unit pulled out to be serviced rather than getting unpacked which wasn’t the best of starts. The room was spotless though - the decor is beautiful and there was plenty storage space for our clothes, shoes and toiletries. We eventually got settled in to our room (203) freshened up and went to dinner that evening. The main restaurant has certain nights of the week that are proper sit down dinners rather than a buffet and our first night was one of them. Another shaky start when we both had pieces of beef that were too tough to cut, but the replacements were tender and delicious and the meal went without a hitch after that. Wine wise, we are normally rosé drinkers but weren’t too keen on the house rosé here but we enjoyed the Chardonnay and tended to drink that with our meals. There is a great selection of wines to purchase over and above those available on the all-inclusive package and we treated ourselves one evening. We were lucky enough to be able to eat at all the a la carte restaurants and can recommend them all. We decided to try the vegan menu at The Cove - it was created and designed by the first vegan chef to hold a Michelin star so definitely worth a try. Neither of us were blown away by it, one dish was basically just a bowl of peas and sweetcorn but the starter bread was delicious, the chilled cucumber soup was deliciously refreshing and the dessert was amazing. I actually think though that some of the vegan options on the everyday menus around the resort were better and more inventive and colourful which I guess is testament to the great chefs here. We went to the Peninsula restaurant for both lunch and dinner. We made the mistake of ordering a two course lunch the first time - they turned up with a board of garlic bread, vegetable crisps and three dips before the starters, which were huge, even arrived! Lesson learned, we never ordered two courses at lunch again! We had lunch twice at the Stay Bar - my husband’s chicken burger was huge!!! He said he was sure it was a whole chicken. The second time he tried the wagyu burger which he said was stunning. I tried both the club sandwich and the vegetarian panini, both of which were delicious. We booked into XO on our final night. This one had the most worries for us as my husband is no sushi and sashimi fan but he said it was probably his favourite meal of the stay. There are plenty of options for those not into raw fish so it’s definitely worth a try. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful and the staff are a real credit to the place. We are not pool people on holiday so we settled by the cove past the Peninsula restaurant every day and had the luxury of just pressing a button for drinks to be delivered to us. At times we felt we were the only people there it was that peaceful. We treated ourselves to a massage at the Cinq Mondes spa. Definitely worth every penny. You are able to use the pool at the spa and enjoy the relaxing garden without having to book a treatment. It’s definitely worth spending some time there. All in all, we had a wonderful time here and it was a wrench to leave and come back to the real world. We would definitely love to return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. Read less

With all the good reviews we expected great things and we were not disappointed. We stayed for two weeks returning home on 2nd November. Management - excellent, as to achieve these high standards takes first class management in my view. Staff - absolutely superb - had zero negative engagements with literally any staff. ALL are polite, happy and great at customer service. So refreshing, as this seems to be a big struggle for most places! The consistent high standards of service from all staff was amazing. All are great, but John, Michael and Tulsi were excellent and very enjoyable to speak with. Really looked after us. Also the waiter who worked with John at breakfast who kept bringing us HP sauce - thank you! Food - a biggie for us, as I am vegetarian and wife pescatarian. Veggie sausages, bacon and loads of veggie options everywhere. At one point I wanted a change in food options and something a bit different - no problem said John - what do you want? Which was just amazing. The hotel is great for food - very good indeed. Cleanliness - spotless everywhere. Spa - we had various treatments and a haircut! Great spa and treatments. Massages and scrubs etc - highly recommended. Yoga - really enjoyed this. Held in garden area of spa. Free boat trip in morning and lunchtime. The snorkelling is off the scale! I’m not really into it but had a go and felt like I’d been dropped in an aquarium! Drinks & rum - the premium drinks are brilliant and well made. The choices of rum are exceptional - think there’s about 15 different types. Free run tasting held at hotel - which is great fun - after that many rums! Try the rum old fashioned made by Tulsi - it’s knockout! Facilities and gym are to a very high standard. Highly recommended! We will be going back. I cannot say anything negative - so I guess they’ve smashed it! Read less
