We stayed in an overwater villa with an infinity pool. This was not only my favorite Sandals experience, but our most enjoyable vacation experience ever. The location, amenities, and especially service was incredible. You must take a boat to get to the overwater villas, as they are truly in the ocean, and not “attached” to the resort as some of the other overwater bungalows in the Sandals brand. This makes it more private, and more quiet. Once you land on the docks, there is a hut that you go through to give your name and room number. We appreciated this extra level of security (and the cookies there)! When we arrived to check into our hut, there was even a trio of singers welcoming us! It was so beautiful and peaceful at the villa each day, and night. The villas are completely private and noise free, so we were able to enjoy the sounds of the ocean and nature all day every day. We saw many birds, including herons, as well as fish, barracuda, and a dolphin playing with its food as it threw fish up in the air! It was magical. Our butler Alex even brought us a small pair of binoculars so we could see better. At night, the stars were bright and the moon was directly in front of our villa. The villa was large, and the outdoor spaces were even larger! There was a very easy to use, fully automatic Delonghi espresso machine in our unit, which I utilized when I woke up early to watch the sunset. We loved the infinity pool, and all of the other outdoor spaces in the villa. We did yoga each morning on the lowest dock (we were delighted to find two Gaiam yoga mats were in our closet) and ate breakfast everyday at our table for two on the upper dock. During the day we relaxed in the wooden loungers, giant round daybed, net, and pool on the upper decks, and ring in the ocean. The pool water was not heated, but was very warm, which was a pleasant surprise after our very cold rondoval pool in St. Lucia. We snorkeled each day using the life jackets and snorkel gear that is located in a deck box on the upper deck. One of the best things was that they delivered paddle boards and kayaks right to your dock, and then left them hooked up at your dock, so you could kayak several times a day! Also, the Hobie Cats will pick you up and drop you off right at your dock! James was our excellent Hobie Cat sailor and gave us the most thrilling (and longest) Hobie Cat ride we have ever had! We had lunch on a floating basket in our pool each day as well. Our butlers also offered to bring us dinner each night, but we wanted to go out to the restaurants as this was our first time visiting this resort. Next time, we will likely have our dinners from the main island delivered as well. I cannot even begin to express how amazing our butler service was. Our butlers, Roland and Alex, went above and beyond for us each day. They set the table perfectly for every meal, and also served us lunch in a floating basket in the pool each day. We have been to many Sandals, as well as other resorts, and have never had a butler as exceptional and professional as Roland. We never had to ask for anything, and he was always making suggestions about things he could provide for us. He visited us often during the day to check in and always brought us surprise drinks from the bar. He was prompt with every meal, and it was piping hot. He even went all of the way back to the main island one morning because he noticed that I was low on rum cream and wanted me to have it with my coffee. He drew a bath for us at least once a day. He always arranged for housekeeping to come while we were in the ocean, and turn down at night while we were at dinner. So our room was kept immaculately cleaned, and we never even saw housekeeping. Finally, coming back to our room each night was like a fairy tale, as it was decorated each night with lights, decorations, rose petals, and snacks. We also appreciated that Christian, the butler manager, checked in with us several times during our stay and took time out of his day to give us a tour of the new rooftop pluge pool rooms. We arrived on an early flight the first day, and booked a cabana so we would have a relaxing place to stay until our villa was ready. The villas are right in the water on the private island, and have two lounge chairs in front of them. The lounge chairs are in the water, so you can lay on them and sun, while putting your hands and feet in the water to cool off. We had the Marvelous Marlon as our butler. He did an exceptional job bringing us food and drinks all day. And we met the photographer Chris, who took excellent photos of us throughout our stay. We loved the amenities, and especially the peace of the private island, which contains a pool, hot tub, bar, jerk shack with beach seating, and the Thai restaurant. The island is beautiful and has many trees and plants on it, and no music, so it is very peaceful and serene. The island, and the bar, were uncrowded, so we could get drinks instantly at the bar. Donald the bartender made great drinks and was so personable. We had fun sharing American and Jamaican sayings back and forth with him. The Thai restaurant on the island was our favorite dinner of the week. The coconut creme brûlée was very good, and even had a lychee on top! Our only disappointment was the evening entertainment. I love evening entertainment, and usually attend everything offered in the evening, starting as soon as we get out of dinner, and sometimes dancing with the DJ until 1:30AM. Unfortunately everything started about 15-20 minutes late the evening we attended. To make matters worse, when the show finally began, the main entertainer on stage used the microphone to make inappropriate remarks directed toward me. We decided to leave the show but didn’t want to give up on the entertainment, as I usually enjoy it so much. So we stayed around for Karaoke, which also started 20 minutes late. Thankfully, Lady P saved the night for us with her incredible friendliness and infectious joy! She was a total blast and really turned things around for us! The next day, we were impressed when the manager, Dawn, came over to our villa to address the issue. This illustrated the excellent service we experienced throughout the resort, and we did not let one incident impact our overall experience or feelings about our stay. Especially with such a quick and positive response from management, this is just another reason we will definitely return to the OWV at this resort! Read less

My husband and I recently visited Sandals Royal Caribbean at Montego Bay in Jamaica for 11 days. My husband had always wanted to visit a Sandals resort and was very excited to be going there. I can say that we were extremely disappointed. I will list below the pros and cons:- Pros: The room we had was very good, large and comfortable and kept clean. The staff we could not fault at all. Darren was very helpful from the first day. Food in Butch’s at Sandals Montego Bay, a short shuttle ride away, was excellent. Cons: Food was always only luke warm, never hot. Food was never replenished quickly. Wi-fi kept falling in and out. Coffee machine in tea/coffee area never worked from the day we arrived. Coffee in the room was not replaced and we had to ring reception to get more. One day we went back to our room to find that one of our four pillows had disappeared. Two nights we were unable to eat in the main restaurant, Spices, as this was closed for Sandals returning guests gathering. No towels by the quiet pool until mid-morning. This happened twice. Shade was very hard to find as the butlers had reserved all the shade on the beach and by the main pool. There was an hourly shuttle bus provided to take guests to the nearby Montego Bay (7 minutes). We used this frequently to go for lunch as the food was much warmer. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed the sun but this Sandals resort is not for us. Read less

Planes take off and land about every 10 minutes during the day and are very loud. 3) it’s very loud - the adjacent resort blasts music during the day and the sound carries across the water. Also, party boat cruises also tour the harbor frequently and also blast music. It is especially loud were the overwater bungalows are located. 4) slow service - not just laid back. Service at the restaurants is painfully slow taking an hour to get food. Our lunch was two hours late one day and breakfast was not delivered on our last day in spite of being ordered the night before. Read less
