ARRIVAL: On arrival we we're checked in straight away with no issues. The lady on the desk was friendly. A lovely gentleman took our luggage to the bedroom and even showed us where things were. ROOMS: Spacious and spotlessly cleaned daily. We opted for a sea view and glad we did. We we're right outside the smaller pool which was great because you can wake up and take a dip before your day begins. STAFF I can honestly say the staff here are amazing. Always smiling and happy. They all work very hard to make your stay a pleasant one. BEACH: The beach had a lot of seaweed washed up most days but my daughter was still happy to take a dip and it didnt bother me because a prefer the pool to swin in amyway. The beach is clean other than that. Lots of sunloungers and a beach towel you can change daily. Lots of activities you can get involved in or you can just lay back and enjoy the sun, be careful though because you have a lovely sea breeze so don't underestimate the sun because you'll burn. HOTEL: It is a quiet hotel but plenty to do outside of it. You are invited to rum punch and fish cakes with the hotel manager. Which was lovely. Mind the rum punch it's stronger than it tastes. Gardens are lovely and well maintained. It has two pools that are checked and cleaned daily. Sunlounger and chairs are also there for you to use. Tea and cake are served mid afternoon around the pool. Happy hour with cocktails from 6pm until 7pm. Which I enjoyed lol. We stayed room only but did have the occasional meal at the hotel. Breakfast was really nice and evening meal was lovely. Wasn't to bad on price really. We also had the odd snack around the pool. EXCURSIONS: We only went on a couple this time round, snorkeling with the turtle was amazing and would probably do again on my return. Harbour lights is a must if you come here. It was a great night from start to finish. Both are worth the money. All in all we have had a great stay. We are booking again next year. Read less

They had a few activities on in the hotel that we wish we'd made more use of! We visited the restaurant around 3 times, I would say this was average as service can be slow, although it was nice to sit by the ocean! We wouldn't hesitate to come and stay again if we were ever so fortunate to be back in the area :D Read less

I recently returned from a 2 week holiday in Barbados and we stayed at Southern Palms. Although I found the staff to be really nice and tentative I was pretty underwhelmed with the hotel. Firstly and this is no reflection on the hotel but merely based on location, I wouldn’t stay on Dover beach again. We booked this location to be close to the gap but unfortunately the beach was spoilt with bad sea weed and rough seas. If I ever return to Barbados I will definitely stay west or more south west to avoid this as the water is calmer and gets less sea weed. We also found the gap to be a lot quieter than we expected except for weekends night time when it gets slightly busier but overall didn’t find the gap to be half as lively as expected. Maybe it’s because technically June is out of season but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s got much going on Mon- Fri and is dead during the day. The hotel itself is very basic. Although we had a lovely big balcony and a partial sea view the room was tiny and the bathroom was like a tiny box. You couldn’t even move in the shower. We have a couple of really stained tatty chairs in the room which were in dire need of being thrown out. Not sure why they keep them. We also found the hotel layout a bit annoying with minimal sunbathing spots. There are some sun beds on the grass but by 3pm the sun is facing the other side so that’s annoying. There are sun loungers to use on the beach but no umbrellas so it’s either be in the shade or burn on the beach lol. We also found the atmosphere a bit somber, no music, always quiet and nobody around so we ended up spending most of our days on other beaches outside of the hotel. It feels like the hotel is definitely catered towards the older generation and while we aren’t that young ( a couple in our thirties) we like to travel to the Caribbean for the jolly atmosphere and you just don’t get that in this hotel. One highlight to the location was twice during our stay we did see turtles laying eggs on the sand at night which was so cool. But overall I wouldn’t stay here again. It really wasn’t great value for money. We have had much better quality stays for less when comparing to other places we have travelled and stayed in the Caribbean. And as mentioned if I did return to Barbados wouldn’t stay on the south coast. Read less

I would firstly like to recognise the staff who do an amazing job always with a smile on their face. Ken the bar waiter made my birthday celebrations memorable by going over and above with his actions he is an asset to the hotel. I water sports / maintenance guy worked tirelessly always with a smile on his face making sure the pool and beach area were pristine. The room although a little dated was spotlessly clean and serviced everyday to a high standard. The uninterrupted views across the clean sand and water made seeing the turtles that live just in front the hotel an amazing experience. The breakfast and lunch served at the restaurant was exceptional and good value for money served with an amazing vibe making the experience more enjoyable. Sundays steel band was a great experience and made relaxing by the water even more perfect. Read less

We had a few blips at the start of the holiday with the room we were allocated .We moved to an Ocean view room with a stunning view. the Southern palms is on the beautiful Dover Beach St Lawrence gap is outside, with entertainment and lots of restaurants . The beach is stunning there are turtles to see and swim with, the water is turquoise the sand is so white. It is just so beautiful when you walk out onto the balcony in the morning ,it takes your breath away. It was my birthday while we were there I was given a bottle of Prosecco during our lunch and in the evening when we went down for our evening meal there was Happy birthday banners on the table and above it was such a lovely surprise. I would like to thank the staff for making my birthday so perfect, they brought a birthday cake out with a candle and sang happy birthday to me. I would like to thank Ken in the restaurants and Michelle and Steve the reservations manager everyone we encountered during our holiday was lovely, helpful, and smiling. One thing I would recommend is to take some earplugs with you if you are in the bottom rooms the bar across the road in the gap can be quite noisy at night time with people singing on a karaoke, if you go to bed early you will need earplugs.
