The hotel

This is the first of the Centara resorts in the UAE, and they’ve pulled out all the stops to create the ultimate family themed family resort to make your dream holiday come true. Inspired by mythical Thai and magical Arabian adventures, everything has been taken into consideration when it comes to suiting family trips, with interconnecting rooms and bunk beds available for all family sizes, and there’s even a childrens spa to sit alongside the adults one, so they can have their fair share of pampering too – after all, it’s tiring going down the water slides all day long! If you want to add that extra touch to your stay, upgrade to a Mirage room for access to the Family club lounge, complete with family-friendly check-in and a kids’ play area. It will be hard to pull them away from the adventure water park for food though, complete with water slides, high ropes, and a lazy river – it’s unlikely you’ll see much of them in the day, especially with the E-zone too. If this is the case, sneak away to the rooftop bar and enjoy a sundowner cocktail or a spot of shisha before dinner, overlooking the Arabian gulf.

The hotel is perfect for children, staff are helpful, food is great, gym is very good they serve bananas and cold water and towels, rooms are comfortable, kids camp is lovely, highly secured, but the thing I did not like that the family pool smells chlorine due to lots of kids' urine, in the night you see the pool blurry and a layer on the surface, the pool bathroom was horribly disgusting(women's pad inside the potty, poop and tissue on the floor) so imagine what's in the pool because of people's ignorance, the luxury pool also had bugs under water swimming, donno what kind of bugs were that. Hope they work on the hygiene of the water and bathroom and be strict by setting some rules like no urine in the pool or put the chemicals that shows a blue clolor, moreover, i hope they do some dj or music on with clear speakers, besides you will see all type of people in the pool with bikini, shorts, tshirts, abayas, clothes, leggings... Etc. Read less

We were so disappointed with our trip here. This is a 4 star hotel but it doesn’t feel like it more like a 3 star. The rooms and bathrooms are basic admittedly though they are clean. When we first checked in however we found a sewing needle on the carpet near the bed which nearly went to into an child’s foot and one day we had a false fingernail stuck to one of our newly replenished towels. We ordered room service the first night. The supposedly good Thai food was terrible and inedible. Breakfast is ok for the first few days but then becomes very boring due to limited choices. It was always very busy with a big queue, loads of dirty empty tables that staff haven’t got to clearing yet. Perhaps more staff are needed in that area. The lift situation is appalling. Long waits for lifts which when they arrive stop at every floor and are full. One ‘national’ man physically nearly pushed my husband over telling him to create more space in the lift and to move in closer. The pool areas was packed all the time. Very large families from various parts of the eastern world with 6 or 7 children each. The children in these families are rude and pushed in at the water slides etc. The inflatable pool area on the beach is full of boisterous teenagers. The staff on the front desk speak English poorly and it is difficult to communicate with them effectively. We arrived back late one afternoon from an outing and I wondered what time the pool closed so thought I’d quickly ask the concierge. He had no idea what I was asking and then looked at his watch and told me the time. The bus to Dubai mall we were told was complimentary but then once we were on board we were told we should have booked with the concierge and it was 25 AED per person which is you are any more than 2 people it is cheaper to get a taxi. The location is remote and taxis are required to go absolutely everyone. There are absolutely no shops nearby if you need anything or want to have a walk around and change of scenery. There is one hotel shop which sells sun cream and essentials like that along with cheap plastic copy toys like counterfeit LOL dolls. On the last evening the children were hungry it was late after we watched the show and we ordered in a fast food meal for them. We were sat in the lobby and the kids had their meals set up in front of them and the security guard came over and told them they couldn’t eat them in there they needed to go outside into the 40 degree heat. They are small children (all under 8) and they were upset by this so we ended up going to the room. The security guard laughed as he walked off. We told him we’d seen other families sat takeaway pizzas and chicken meals in the lobby other days. If outside food isn’t allowed the hotel needs to be consistent in it policies and should also have signs up. All in all we wished we’d booked a different hotel for our trip. We have been to Dubai many times and this hotel is not what we consider to be reflective of hotels and service in Dubai. We could have booked a nicer hotel on the Palm for just a little more and had a much more enjoyable experience. Read less
