Disney's Contemporary Resort

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The hotel

The closest hotel to the Magic Kingdom Park is the height of retro, '70s cool. The monorail enters the lobby through a 'curtain' of air to drop off and pick up. The stylish, gourmet 15th-floor California Grill restaurant offers incredible bird's-eye views over the Magic Kingdom Park (perfect for the evening fireworks), or you can meet your favourite characters in Chef Mickey's Restaurant. If you're not at the park during the day, there's a big swimming pool, tennis courts and even the option of renting a boat and cruising around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon - and come the end of the day, tired parents can revive themselves in the cocktail lounge.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating More Disney Outsourcing More Problems

One huge problem if it becomes a problem. Disney has outsourced its luggage service at door. Give them your bags and they are not Disney employees. Took an hour to get the Disney bell hop to track down guy from separate company to get our bags. Never run into problem like this in 30+ years of hotel stays even at some sub par hotels. Took an hour to get the Disney bell hop to track down guy from separate company to get our bags. Never run into problem like this in 30+ years of hotel stays even at some sub par hotels. Disney hop said this isn't an unusual problem since they outsourced the service. Outsourced employee was rude as well. Like I said not a big deal unless you actually want or need your luggage within an hour of asking for it. Otherwise you should be fine. Read less

Honestly I forgot about that and the day we arrived, we had a party in our room and shared a few treats with them. The next day I realized our mistake and fessed up to the concierge who was totally cool about the fact we spoke up. He said 'No worries and have a wonderful vacation.' This is the Disney I loved and remember. One time on an empty (but us) bus to the ticket and Transportaion stop the driver asked us where we were staying. When I said the Contemporary, he too us and the whole darn bus to the front door! Would not accept a gratuity and smiled and said have a wonderful day. People forget this stuff. One time we sat with the Osborn family and did not know who they were but were complimenting how lovely the lights were at the back of HS. A Disney rep was smiling at us and walked over to me and asked if I knew who I was talking to. Then he told me this was the family who donated the 5 million lights at HS. They were the nicest folks! Disney... keep doing good stuff and making people feel special. We are shelling out big bucks nowadays and wish you could lasso the park rates for seniors. We have been going for 40 years. Our time is passed to go sun up to midnight but we have done it! Read less

We booked a short stay here, in a garden wing room. The room was only a short walk from reception (you had to go outside) but the bonus was it was right near the swimming pool! We overlooked a car park, which didn’t bother us on this trip as we planned on staying out to watch the fireworks. The room was comfy and we all had a good nights sleep.… Read more

Very convenient location, nice swimming pool. It looks much better inside than it does from the outside. (Outside looks dated to me). We would stay at this hotel again. Read less

The restaurant here is high end and fabulous! Our food was delicious and of great quality and we had great service with a lovely view. I cannot say enough how they made this meal so special for us and how I will always remember it fondly, thank you Disney!

We completed our 15th on-property stay at the Contemporary Resort on September 6th. In 2011, we stayed at the Contemporary and received a magical upgrade from the garden wing to the 11th-floor pool view room. This reservation was also for the garden wing, and this stay had no magical upgrades. The garden wing was unbelievably quiet and appropriately equipped for three adults. A walk from our second-floor room to the 4th floor was 4:25 minutes. The room is large and has many unique lighting features. It has reading lights, recessed ceiling lighting with a dimmer, and other lighting. The closet, too, has lights and could serve as a nightlight if you have children. The Contemporary does fulfill a niche within the Deluxe properties of having an enclosed atrium to entertain. Every afternoon, it would rain @ Disney World, so we could spend time in the arcade and shop when the weather had us hostage. The monorail also allowed us access to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom when it was raining. The California Grill is NOT part of Disney Dining. The Contempo Café’s food selections were mediocre at best. Any national chain restaurant has better quality and portions. Ice cream is only available in bars or soft serve. Our previous stay in 2023 was at the Pop Century, and their food court is much better than what the Contemporary offers. Quick-service meal quality has decreased since 2015 inside the park and within the resorts. They used to include a drink, salad or dessert, and an entree. Those days are over. The pool and the pool-side cast members hosting music trivia were fantastic. The volume wasn’t too much, and she was delightful and encouraged play from the poolside guests without being obnoxious. We won’t return to the Contemporary in future visits. With the regression of quick-service meal quality and limited menu selections, we feel moderate and value resorts better fit our needs. Read less
