Whilst the hotel is beautiful, food is amazing, and beach is breathtaking - the staff make this hotel very special. Everyone is incredibly friendly and they are so accommodating, nothing is too much for them. I’ve never experienced such an amazing team. Concierge were so helpful in helping us book taxis, and trips out of the hotel (Oistins on a Friday night is a MUST!). If you’re considering staying here - this is your sign! I am counting down the days until we are lucky enough to revisit. Read less

One day we had a tropical storm and the staff went above and beyond to help all their guests. We were in the UMI restaurant at the time and although the girls in the restaurant were soaked to the skin, fielding falling glasses, chopsticks and napkins, they continued to be professional, kind and had a sense of humour. Well done to them. Read less

After a 20 minute taxi ride from Grantley Adams airport, we arrived at the Sugar Bay Resort with a nice welcome drink of our choice. On check in we were relieved of 97 U.S. dollars Barbados room tax (for a 10 night stay) & a credit card deposit despite being all inclusive, but it was refunded on departure. The all inclusive wrist band doubles up as your room entry key which is an excellent idea as you don't have to carry around room key cards (on departure that wrist band is replaced with another entitling you to a meal and drinks up to 3 p.m.). We were allocated a small room on the 3rd floor overlooking the garden, unfortunately with nowhere to put cases other than in the hanging wardrobe space (no room to put the luggage rack out in the room), no mirror in the room only in the bathroom & minimal hard to access power points down by side of bed. I had to do my hair leaving the bathroom door open sitting on the bed looking through to the bathroom mirror from around 10 feet away. A bottle of wine was left in the room for our wedding anniversary which was a lovely touch. The room had 2 bathrobes, a hairdryer, tea coffee facilities, iron & ironing board, safe, a walk in shower with toiletries supplied & a fridge freezer with 4 bottles of water. Two beach towels are also left in the room. Wi-Fi is very good all over the resort, even on the beach. The only aircon units are in your room, the reef food presentation area & the reception toilets, The ceiling fans elsewhere are ineffective, including the restaurants. There are no fans in the reception seating area so when you don't get a late checkout it is stifling waiting around for your transfer. We found the food to be very good throughout, in the speciality Asian fusion Umi & Steakhouse (bookable at the concierge, complimentary visits are once per 3 days) & the Reef buffet restaurants. Colin's restaurant & bar is good for wraps, burgers, hot dogs lunch times. The Blush Cafe is close to the Steakhouse uphill from reception for breakfast/coffee & there is coffee or tea cakes & sandwiches between the bar & pool at Driftwood Cafe around 4 p.m. The Lazy Mongoose pub opens around 9 pm with a large tv screen & is uphill from reception past the fountain. Entertainment each night is next to the main bar, mainly singers, Steel bands, dancers etc. Movie night is on Wednesdays & local crafts are also sold. There is the La Tienda shop on site if you have forgotten anything. There are 2 pools, the main pool has a pool bar but is shallow with a step in. The other pool is merely a plunge pool by Colin's bar. The hotel boasts a lovely shelving bay where rocks shield the incoming waves around 80 feet out. You don't have to get up early for sunbeds on the beach or pool but the majority of the clientele is mainly around 50 plus. There are around 6 to 8 hammocks on the beach & 3 large donut rings about 7 foot in diameter in the bay for sunbathing in the water. Water sports are available such as paddle boarding, canoeing, snorkelling, & a change of beach towels are available at the water sports centre next to Colin's restaurant/bar. Umbrellas are brought round by water sports staff after 8 a.m. You can walk down the beach in both directions but take shoes as the boardwalk left towards St Lawrence Gap / Oistins is hot. Wildlife around the resort includes small bats, hummingbirds, green monkeys, frogs, grasshoppers / cicedas & small lizards. The hotel is very close to Carlisle bay / Bridgetown one way & St Lawrence Gap / Oistins to the right. Bus no 11 or the 3d bus is just 3.5 bbd per person. A taxi to Bridgetown costs 20 USD or 40 BBD. The Garrison Savannah race course is within walking distance from the hotel. The cricket ground the other side of Bridgetown is a 50 dollar taxi ride. Staff are extremely friendly & very helpful throughout this resort. We arrived at the start of November & the temperature was around 33 each day, dropping around 5 degrees at night. Every day we had around a 15 minute rain shower, however on our last full day there was torrential rain & no room in the Reef restaurant to eat so people were eating in the boardroom & by the Concierge. Apart from the odd niggle however, we very much enjoyed it & for the staff & the food alone we would recommend a stay at this hotel. Read less

A fabulous repeat visit after visiting 6 years ago. We visited with three children of varying ages and each and every one of us was well catered for. The staff are all so welcoming and accommodating and fabulous with the children. The location is stunning; white sandy beach, plenty of sun beds both around the pool and on the beach. The sea is warm and a nice depth, making it feel safe for the whole family. The water sports team are great, ensuring plenty of shade if required, by providing umbrellas. The food was exceptional! We ate across Reef, Umi and Sizzle Steakhouse and enjoyed every meal. We will definitely return. Highly recommend the sea turtle boat trips. Read less
