The hotel

Having recently been the proud recipient of a ‘Best Renovations’ award, the Intercontinental Montréal offers luxury accommodation in one of the city’s most sought after locations. Combining the exclusivity of a boutique hotel with top-tier service, guests are most certainly in for a treat when staying here, relaxing in rooms that are sumptuously furnished with plenty of space to stretch out in. On the 10th floor is the fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment and aerobic classes. Alternatively, head to the indoor pool to swim a few laps or chill out in the spa tub. Osco! means ‘bravo!’, a sentiment you’ll heartily agree with at the Intercontinental’s signature restaurant, a Province-inspired brasserie with an ever-changing menu. There’s also the Sarah B Bar, named after Sarah Bernhardt, the queen of the French Tragedy, whose spirit is said to wander the vaults of the hotel — so keep your eyes peeled! At ‘green hour’, Absinthe is served. Known as the ‘green fairy’ it was said to enhance the creative energies of the great 19th century European writers and artists, including Sarah Bernhardt, but beware, at 55–75% proof, it’s not a tipple for the faint hearted!

The bathroom is quite large, with a great shower and huge fluffy towels (although we would have appreciated to have extra towels). Parking in the connected underground garage is not too pricey ($25) for a big city, although you have to drive down 9 floors to reach the hotel parking level. Breakfast was pretty good but we have had better in major hotels across Canada. Overall, the Hotel Intercontinental is very good value for the money. Read less

Kind and helpful staff, beautiful lobby, unique bathrooms, spacious rooms. However, our mini fridge was mostly empty and very dirty (spilled food, etc). Breakfast buffet was very small with not a lot of options, especially for vegans. We were able to eat energy balls (coconut, cocoa powder, and oats), potatoes, and fruit. But the beans had lard, the pastries all had milk/eggs, and there were no veggie options for the meats or milk alternatives to put in cereal or coffee. The juices were self-serve and stored with ice in them so they were very watered down. Loved that we had direct access to underground Montreal / Victoria square / The World Trade Center from our hotel without even having to leave the building! Our room keys deactivated after one night so we had to go back downstairs and get them fixed (staff was very kind and helpful) but this was especially frustrating because we had just waited over 15 minutes for an elevator to show up to get to our room and then we had to go right back down since neither of our keys worked. Shower is small but the water pressure is great and the green tile is super pretty and unique. Hotel is in a great location, very close to lots of shops and restaurants. No available outlets on the left side of the bed so I had to unplug the lamp at night to charge my phone. Not a big deal but something to note! Housekeeping worked quickly and did a good job, again staff was friendly and helpful. My husband got sick while we were here and so we called the concierge to ask about finding a doctor. She said she knew one that we could talk to over the phone and get care and that she would call us right back. She never did. So 2 hours later we called back and she said she would call us back within the next 2 hours (it’s 10 pm at this point.) we stayed up until 2 am waiting and then finally went to bed and gave up. She never ended up calling, even the next day, so we just went to the pharmacy down the street and got some medicine over the counter. Overall it is a very nice hotel, but the Intercontinental Toronto was much better by comparison! Read less

The front desk people were relatively friendly, nothing out of the ordinary. Concierge was helpful. The hallways and rooms were very dated and dark. The hallway had a musty smell. Carpets have not been changed in years. During our first night, I realized there was dark hair all over the bathroom floors, definitely not our hair. The shower was very small, barely could fit in the small stall. Beds were comfortable though, about the only good thing in the room. Breakfast was included in our package and was decent at best. We had breakfast for two, but my friend doesn’t normally have breakfast. He asked me if I could bring him up a couple of croissants. After I ate, I asked the waiter if I could get a small bag to bring my friend two croissants from the buffet up to the room, and he said “that is not allowed”. I asked if I could just put them on a plate and bring it up to the room for myself, and he said “no”. This was ridiculous!!!! So I end d up going to the outside store and bought him his croissant. We stayed our final night at the Westin across the street and that was so much better! W e have stayed at many IHG hotels, and this was definitely the worst one we have stayed at. Highly recommend the Westin across the street. Read less

The location of the hotel is really great and the metro is just outside the door. The club lounge was a bit of a mix experience. Even it is not the best Intercontinental hotel, I will book it again, if I need a hotel in Montreal. Review: I arrived to the hotel by Uber. It took about 30 min from the airport and the price was about CAD 50. I arrived a bit late, so the check in was fast an efficient. The staff was really kind. The location of the hotel is really good - walking distance to the Old town, Downtown and the harbour. You will find a lot of great restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. The main shopping street is 10 min walk away. And the Metro station is just outside the door. I got a huge room, but it was old-fashion furnitures, who needs an upgrade. The room was on higher floor with a great view at the city. There are 3 elevators in the building, but only 2 of them were used and some mornings it took more than 10 min before the elevator reached my floor. The room was clean and Wi-fi worked well. I had breakfast and before dinner drinks in the Club lounge every day. The food selection was limited compared to other Intercontinental Club Lounge, but the food was tasty. One Morning the staff forgot about the breakfast, so it was served 45 min late, and the before dinner drinks were also delayed a couple of days. It is very easy to get a table in the club lounge.
