We just got back from a family vacation at Beaches Ocho Rios, and while there were some memorable moments, the experience was mixed overall, especially considering the high price for what was offered. Starting with the highlights: some of the staff members were wonderful and truly made a difference in our experience. A special mention goes to Dwayne, our waiter on many evenings, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Our daughters (13 & 16) had a fantastic time with the resort’s waterpark and beach, especially enjoying the banana boat ride and snorkeling. We also took the Royal Swim with dolphins at Dolphin Cove and Dunn’s Falls excursion, which was definitely the best day of our trip, even though it was a bit pricey. The resort’s facilities, however, seemed dated, with several areas clearly in need of repairs. The concierge service was limited to WhatsApp messaging, which didn’t provide the level of guidance and clarity we were hoping for. There was also limited information about daily activities, making it hard to know what was available each day. While we were able to make restaurant reservations, the food service was very slow. On a couple of occasions, it took over an hour for our meals to arrive, which made it hard to enjoy by the time it came. Additionally, the buffet often ran out of food, which was disappointing. We also noticed the gym needed some attention, as one of the treadmills was quite noisy. All in all, while we had a good time, especially enjoying the beach and activities, the resort needs updates and better organization to truly offer a premium experience that matches its price tag. This was our 2nd trip to Beaches Ocho Rios this year which really says something about how good this place is for a family holiday……we loved Sandals pre-kids and travelled to Jamaica in April this year for the first time with kids and chose Beaches for the reliability of the brand……..they LOVED it as there was so much to do (pool, water park, golf, water sports including paddle boarding, Hobie cats, banana boat ride, snorkelling, diving…….) but this trip the weather meant it was mainly water park and pool activities. The buildings are in need of a good coat of paint, new guttering, pool tile repairs and the bath tub in our room had a large crack which caused it to flex when showering - reported it to reception who said they would get maintenance to check it - no idea if they came but the crack remained all week and is a safety hazard - we contemplated asking for a room switch when it didn’t improve but packing up and moving felt a bridge too far even if they had offered so it was our choice not to pursue it. There are currently building works ongoing and the pier is no longer there - we were told the work has been ongoing since June and as a consequence the lovely little bar above the dive shop which was the most idyllic place for sunset and evening drinks is shut - we weren’t made aware of this work (which clearly started after we booked) before arriving which was a disappointment. No pier also means that to get on the boat for the glass bottom boat and snorkelling trip you wade out and climb in - staff are helpful and will haul you in but it’s not as easy as getting in from the pier at Easter! The staff here are great and make the holiday - cheerful, friendly, great with the kids….. lifeguards Robin and Richard in the water park were there most of the week and the boys loved them - especially trying to teach them how to get as far as possible across the landing pool down the straight chute slide! Natalia the dive instructor is one of the best I’ve ever come across - she did the refresher course for my husband and I in April - she was thorough and very calm in her approach and really friendly and after her pool session we really enjoyed our dives at Easter - sadly this trip in October the weather was terrible and there was no diving at all for the 7 days we stayed - but our 8 year old felt so confident in Natalia he specifically asked her to do his PADi Bubblemaker - he loved it and we felt he was in safe hands being taught basic skills thoroughly in the pool. Merville is another excellent dive instructor at this resort and taught our older 2 boys aged 14 and 12 to dive at Easter and they liked his jovial ‘can do it’ attitude. He had the boys in the pool again this trip practicing their skills to complete their Open Water (they did their PADI Junior Scuba Diver in April allowing them to do the afternoon shallow dive) but sadly the weather meant they didn’t get their ocean dives to certify. Based on our stay at Easter when we were able to dive twice a day we would highly rate the dive team here. The kit is in good condition (we have our own mask and snorkel) and they were very helpful. I’m not sure how easy it is though to get on the boat with kit and no pier at present. But the all inclusive diving here does make this resort good value when the weather doesn’t thwart you! The pool swim up bar staff are all great but Omar is a legend - he makes great cocktails for adults and the mocktails for kids are inventive - an Omar special and an Omar Pretty Special were the 8 year olds highlights! ODayke in the main bar by the stage is also a great guy and makes good chocolate martinis. The food is good. Buffet breakfast had plenty of choice and an omelette station. Lunch in the buffet had burgers made to order and was often quicker than getting a burger from the BBQ park outlet where service is slow (30mins from order to ready) but they will plate up and cover with film so you can take hot food back to the loungers in the water park or pool area. Dinner we used Neptunes, Parisienne, Venetian and Out of the Blue. Service was good in all of them - the food in the French restaurant is way better than the others but the outdoor dining at Neptune wins the location. Each evening at 6pm there is a Sesame Street show or dance party for 20-30mins and photo opportunities afterwards. Our 8 year old loves this time of day and the characters are very engaging. Overall this stay was good but the facilities were not as good as at Easter - the pier works and the closed bar above the dive shop need finishing as an urgent priority. Our kids love it here and the cosmetics of the place didn’t alter their enjoyment but the staff attitudes towards them and us are what would make us choose here again in future. Read less

As a service provider, you can't help but to wonder what it is like on the other side of the desk. What impact do I have on these individuals who bleed high expectations of me? I was able to experience some of that at this hotel and I wanted to highlight few people who had such impact than to focus on the negatives. After these encounters, I realised that it's the simple things that make people want to return. I wish I had every name but here's a few that stood out to me. Earl and Jasmine are true front of house representatives. Big smiles, easy conversations and they understand truly the concept of costumer service and friendliness. Chef Sanique from the Mill has a nice smile and made a mean omelet for me just the way I asked. Chrissan and Oraine from the mill were also very helpful. Just to see me struggling and making a simple offer of a plate cover, made my day. Shantel from concierge was funny to me and Raygons frequent 'hello' stood out to me . Jeniva the housekeeper is passionate about her job. Not only does she cleans very well but she made sure to remind us not to open the door while the ac was on. It was off though, the room was just too cold. That lady understands sustainability. Conceirge and the front desk team must have been annoyed by my questions and queries. I must thank them truly for what they did for my brother's birthday and I only wish i grabbed all their names before they left the room. I remember them passing by with the balloons and after realising that my brother saw they tried to play it off lol. Dont be fooled by Ranaldo's, the front desk agent, strong personality. That guy knows hospitality and getting the job done. Merica is a good contrast to him, as my mom fell inlove with her warm personality and kindness (hope I got the spelling for these right). The front desk manager was helpful too. Paul and Zhanee from the front desk are exceptional as well. They know how to have a conversation. I don't know where Cion works but shout out to her for asking me if I was okay while I sat clueless by the elevator. When you get down to the gift shop, Carol and Shanique's beaming personalities will have you buying everything in that store. Patrina ,Tamika and Decalva from the BBQ park were my favorite. They maintained good composure and friendliness though the restaurant was busy. Cute and sassy Simone takes pride in her job as the BBQ park bartender. She can make any alcoholic drink a virgin one and it still tastes amazing. The entertainment team and animators works really hard and they're activities are fun. Heidi, i believe their manager does right by the team. My brother is the true definition of an introvert and for him to feel happy during the dance party at the sesame Street show and a balloon toss contest, means something. Finally, Miles our driver and Oshane a bell man, sealed the end of our trip as he waved goodbye to us after a touching speech of thank you. Vice versa, Thank you for your time and efforts. Kudos to a job well done. Even the locals can feel special and that's what makes the brand beautiful. Read less

One of the disappointments was the food options. Our first night only 2 restaurants were open and the selection was very limited. If you are vegan, vegetarian or plant based this may not be the ideal location. Out of the Blue was good but not available every night. The staff were pleasant. The property is dated but did not ruin our trip. The tennis court needs to be fixed, the turf is falling apart. Overall we had an alright stay, each day got progressively better. Read less

You could see the dust all on them from the ground. I have videos of me ordering my food and roaches just running up and down on the counter of the restaurant. The towels on the Beach and pool runs out by mid-day it seems like everyday. I then hired a taxi from outside the hotel and they gave him a hard time to get into the Premises to pick is up. So he would have to wait outside the gate. I would not recommend this place at all. Read less
