Where is it

In the heart of the Riviera Maya, overlooking the award-winning white sands of Akumal Beach. Akumal, “place of turtles” in Mayan, is home to one of the largest green sea turtle populations in Mexico. Close to the area’s most unique sites including an authentic Mayan village, the world’s largest underground river and just 20 minutes from the famous Playa del Carmen. Close to Tulum Ecological Site. The world’s second largest barrier reef sits just 150 metres off the resort’s beach. Transfer time from Cancun Airport: 60 minutes.

It's one if not the nicest resort we've stayed at. From the moment you enter the resort, it's so beautiful and a lot to take in. As this being the 2nd Secrets we've visited after Maroma, the only unpleasant feedback I can give is I wish they had more activities like Maroma. Maybe add more volleyball games instead of 1, or basketball, maybe tennis… Read more

But food and drinks here at Akumal is waaaaay better than Maroma. So whatever Akumal was missing, it's okay in exchanged for better food and drinks. We love this resort! We have been here 3 times. Did a site inspection in 2022, got married there in 2023, and returned for a honeymoon/babymoon in 2024. The food here is incredible, the service is top notch and the ambiance is out of this world! We will happily come back after baby is born for a full week of true paradise!

The facilities, rooms and restaurants were all great, the beach and sea were amazing too - snorkelling in the sea and seeing the turtles in the wild was some experience! Best of all, though, was the staff - they couldn’t do enough for us to make our trip perfect! We were there during a hurricane, which obviously affected the hotel, but within a couple of days, we couldn’t tell it had happened.
