The hotel

Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort is an adults-only, all-suite hotel, just 10 minutes north of Cancun. Where is it

On a lovely white sand beach in the resort of Playa Mujeres. Just a 10-minute drive north from Downtown Cancun in an exclusive gated community, located inside a championship 18-hole Playa Mujeres Golf Course, designed by golf legend Greg Norman. Transfer time from airport: 35 minutes.

The building is dated, our elevator was not working thru out our whole stay, the room did not smell clean, sheet’s towels. Someone thru up in the pool by the bar area, we chose this resort because we stayed at secrets playa maroma and it was wonderful, so we thought it would be the same.

We stayed 5 nights at Secrets Playa Mujeres. What a wonderful time. The property is beautiful, the pools are warm and amazing, the staff is very helpful, friendly and professional. We at at the buffet every morning for breakfast. There were many choices of foods, breads, eggs, fish, cheese, cereal, you name it. You could get a fresh crepe or a made to order omelette. Coffee was refilled as needed at your table in addition to any juice you may want. The staff went out of their way to make sure you had what you needed. We dinner at the restaurants, the food was outstanding (we aren’t foodies, so please understand if you have a different opinion, but we loved everything). The wait staff was professional and helpful. We never made it over to the Dreams side for food, but I imagine it’s just as delicious. There were a couple of nights with a gorgeous outdoor buffet. Food there was also amazing. The pool bar is where we got most of our drinks. Most of the time they were strong enough, but if need a lot of alcohol in your drink, just ask and they’ll pour to your heart’s desire. Bartenders were great and knew every drink you could think of. The beach was great. The hotel does the best they can with the seaweed, but it is there. It’s more like larger grass clippings and easy to deal with once you’re in the water. My one and only complaint was during the check-in. We flew a red eye and were pretty tired when we got there. Understandably our rooms were not ready and that was fine. We it’s wanted to get the check in process done and then head for some coffee and breakfast, change our clothes and go swimming. Unfortunately, we were made to sit through a “sales pitch” of sorts about all the “benefits” we had available to us via coupons etc. I asked the woman doing this pitch, Lana, if we could please just go get breakfast first and hear the pitch afterwards, to which she said she “had” to do this presentation before we could go. Totally frustrating and really not cool for a report of this caliber. We would have been perfectly fine with coming back to hear about all the “specials” etc after some breakfast, but that was not be. The “specials” were a bunch of coupons for $20 or $40 toward spa services, which incidentally we found to be quite pricey, so no real deal anyway. This didn’t ruin our vacation at all, just a frustration that can easily be avoided if the hotel would “allow” us to skip it. We had a great time. Read less

They don’t serve alcohol until 10, which didn’t bothered us at all, just a heads up. Men can wear shorts and polo/button down type shirts to dinner, the French restaurant is the only one where men are required to wear pants (more formal wear) The theatre has a nightly show, and a DJ at the desires bar Pool games and activities all day 10/10 would recommend this resort and we will be back for sure ! Overall, our stay was great, we got to the hotel on Thursday July 4th just as Hurricane Beryl was approaching. The hotel did a great job of keeping us safe and inform us of conditions. Food and service at the Bordeaux French, Oceana Seafood the fine dining restaurants was very good. The food was very good and tasty at the Barefoot and Seafood Grill restaurants by the pool. Our room was great, and the pool was fun. The only downside of our stay was that we asked for coffee for the coffee maker 3 times and didn't get the until 3 days later. Read less
