Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa - Handwritten Collection

Nusa Dua, Bali

Virgin rating

The hotel

Living up to its ‘authentically Bali’ mantra, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa - Handwritten Collection feels like a reincarnated Balinese palace. Every element’s lavish, with its three exquisite tree-fringed pools, sumptuous spa, gym, and seven bars and restaurants all adding to the fantastical feel. But nothing’s quite as regal as its grounds, where tropical greenery spills over balconies, tumbles through gardens, and comes to rest on the pure white sands of its beach. The effect’s a serene setting for garden tours, coconut leaf weaving, and traditional dance classes – and for Gecko Club’s child-focused island experiences. Inside its nine hectares, a dramatic temple-like structure splits to reveal an elaborate lily pond festooned with water features; Balinese guest rooms (including Butler-served Club rooms) divulge garden, pool, or beach scenes; and the incredible bamboo web of its double-decked brasserie opens up to hypnotic Indian Ocean views.

Very nice hotel with friendly helpful staff. I stayed here at the end of a two week tour of Indonesia starting in Jakarta. Breakfast was excellent, a few unexpected visitors at breakfast such as a heron but they kept far enough away. Lovely swimming pools and loungers on the beach. Breakfast was excellent, a few unexpected visitors at breakfast such as a heron but they kept far enough away. Lovely swimming pools and loungers on the beach. The spa looked nice but I didn't use it. I ate at The Tamarind for each of my 3 nights, it was very good. You can walk along a walkway past the other 5 star hotels but for me the disadvantages are there was less within walking distance compared to our previous hotel in Sanur. But overall I loved it, thank goodness for the A/C! Read less

We had wonderful dining experiences (especially Tamarind restaurant), and a few average banquets. Miss Three was uninspired by the Kids Club, the room was bright and clean with friendly staff; but she was not keen. The program didn't seem to use the resort facilities, getting the kids out to feed the ducks and fish, or use the beach etc. It felt wrong putting her in a room when there was so much lovely outdoor space. The pools and beach were a little warm (don't blame the hotel for that, was just a bit disappointing). The room was cool, a good size, and quiet; we had joining rooms, which worked well for our intergenerational family. I used the gym, but found it too warm; the floor matting was hot, and smelled of recycled tyres, bare concrete would be cooler and nicer to use; treadmills were old and could use an update. My negatives were minor, because overall we had a lovely holiday here, and hope to return. Read less

Just got back from this resort and had an amazing holiday. The staff where very friendly and always willing to Help with a smile, Its located on the beach which is kept to high standard throughout the day and there are more than enough places to eat on hand to allow you to mix it up over your stay. My one AND only! bug bear from the whole trip was the All inclusive package being not very All inclusive, I soon discovered there are 2 menus on hand! one for paying customers & one for all inclusive and having looked I found the All inclusive very very restricted in comparison. I stay in 5 star hotels for every trip I go on and I've never experienced this (to this extent) Normally you accept that import spirits, High costing foods etc are additional cost but this was excessive down to Ice cream in a cone from the Squirrel (nope) Ice cream in a bowl as a desert yes, even the Local Beer Bintang - Big 620ml Bottle (Nope) 330ml bottle yes. I know you can drink as much as you like but its seemed odd. Having spent over £1600 to upgrade the trip (32,021536 IDR) I Don't know if I saw the benefit or had a true all inclusive experience. The resort leans heavily towards those that are "paying as they go" as a business (and why not) I just wish I knew before I upgraded as the money I spent on All inclusive could have gone towards experiencing more of Bali.
