Apsara Beachfront Resort & Villa

Khao Lak, Thailand

Virgin rating

The hotel

You could be forgiven for thinking the Apsara is only for water babies, with its beachfront setting, infinity swimming pool, villa pool, two kids' pools, pool villa upgrades, water slide and of course, the obligatory Jacuzzi. But there’s more to the Apsara than sun, sea and sand. Set in unspoilt tropical greenery, along Pakarang Beach, this All Inclusive haven offers a range of drinks and things to do. There’s the Thai cookery classes, Thai boxing, spa treatments, bike rental and kayaking to name but a few!

A wonderfully relaxing place to stay. Beautiful beach and delicious food. Staff are friendly and welcoming, especially Ray in the main restaurant. He’s from Burma, and is so thoughtful and kind. We loved it, but it’s very quiet, so possibly not to everyone’s taste

As I sit here on our last day of our fantastic 2 week holiday - I can only say book it and enjoy it! Thailand is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly and welcoming, there is not a bad word I can say about the hotel. My only advice - book the villa side you will not regret it! The villa side is yes slightly quieter but you get amazing service, a la carte meals and can drink in all bars of the hotel - now including the unreal beach bar Karkinos. Room - we stayed in a pool villa which was amazing in size, clean, tidy and good mini bar included. Ok some parts slightly tired looking but overall a great the room, the best we’ve ever had in terms of space and privacy! Great for a morning and evening dip! Even decorated for our anniversary which was perfect - thank you All inclusive - firstly be aware that Thai all inclusive is different to European. It’s great they focus on sustainability and reduced waste so meaning that even the buffers are enough but not too much! I love the signs telling you how much food has been wasted as a stark reminder of eat all you can take and take all you can eat! Yes certain drinks are not available such as Prosecco and premium spirits, however good beer, gin, vodka and amazing cocktails. Whilst ice coffee is not included, can ask for a latte and a glass ice to pour in! The food is amazing at all places, karkinos Italian and napali authentic Thai, we’ve ate there every night and had something different - unreal food. Staff - cannot fault any staff extremely helpful and friendly, cannot do enough for you! Special thanks to Yuda, Wendi, Tee, Kathy, Aslem, Adam and Grace for just making us truly feel like family - our drinks were ordered even before we sat down! Amazing service, all deserve every inch of respect (please read handbook in room on Thai culture for respecting all staff!) Area - is quiet, would recommend all inclusive as very good quality with really only bar on beach being memories. However can book excursions through hotel for Khao Lak Land Discovery - we done James Bond island and even though raining was a great day! Weather - yes it’s tropical so it can mean some rain some shine but always warm! Advise to purchase bug spray out here as lots of them but it’s very good and cheap. Overall one of the best holidays we have done and would not hesitate coming back to a pool villa within a heart beat - thank you Apsara for making our first trip to Thailand perfect! (P.s I will be comparing all other hotels to this fine establishment!) Read less

Negatives first: We paid a large sum of money to upgrade for a sea view room to enjoy the sunsets from our balcony (the price was almost equivalent to a villa upgrade) - our room could see nothing of the sea, therefore 1 star removed. Negatives first: We paid a large sum of money to upgrade for a sea view room to enjoy the sunsets from our balcony (the price was almost equivalent to a villa upgrade) - our room could see nothing of the sea, therefore 1 star removed. (See photo) Second star removed because within a luxury beach front resort I do not want to be bothered by street vendors trying to sell me suits, inside the resort! I've only been bothered in Bangkok, not good when you want to walk around the resort and you're being stared at for eye contact to ask if you want to buy a suit. However 2 bad things aside, staff super friendly and barman Adam was a level above!, resort offers brilliant services such as massages and excursions at a great price. The meals for all inclusive are fantastic from 1st November for busy period starting. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all offering tasty and well prepared food. 2 weeks and we didn't feel 'bored' of the menu - we popped over to memories bar because according to TripAdvisor it's the best thing since sliced bread, so we had a coconut and enjoyed the view but nothing to write home about. Not too far from the hotel an elephant sanctuary is well worth a visit. Taxis can be called from reception for 300bht into town (don't pay more) and the shuttle bus runs at scheduled times. Night market is great then jump in a taxi back after buying a trinket or two and some nice food. Would I return? Yes. Read less

After staying in a resort in Kata Noi beach Phuket we were very excited for a more relaxing time at the Apsara in Khao Lak. The Apsara was a little disappointing all round attention to detail was lacking, the little things that we experienced in our first resort and on previous visits to Thailand were definitely absent in the Apsara. Rooms were very comfortable and there was no trouble sleeping in the beds, comfy and lovely bedding. Did have a bit of an issue with rooms not being cleaned until after 5.30pm (and it wasn’t done at all one day) bearing in mind by 6 it was getting dark and everyone is generally heading to their rooms for showers and the like in preparation for the evenings. We did decide to go all inclusive once we arrived there but if you don’t have it already I wouldn’t choose to do it again, food was average. Breakfast was great large selection and you’re a very fussy eater if you can’t find something to your liking. Pool was ok but with an amazing beach and beautifully warms sea on our doorstep we only used it once. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful when we had an issue with our room. Location is super right on the beach. Taxi ride (200/300 baht each way) will take you to some amazing restaurants, villages, night markets and shops (resort has a small shop with a few basics in). There is an elephant sanctuary within walking distance where you can pay to just feed the elephants, amazing experience. Would we stay here again, maybe. Read less

The Aspara is not a 4* hotel, having been to Khao Lak earlier this year and staying at another hotel that was much better. Firstly the first room was ok in size but the bathroom had mold all over, even after a clean it still had mold and a shower head that only reached the middle of my chest, I did get a room change that still had mold in it, just not as bad. Food is another issue not much choice and all buffet style meals not what you expect in a 4* hotel, and all its bars are not all inclusive one you have to pay for your drinks in that bar several staff all inclusive bar one at the other one next to the restaurant 2 staff. Entertainment twice a week 2 things here if they put it on you go to see it and your drinking costing them money like a pool bar there isn't one, only one pool. In general all the staff are super nice people, it's management that need to change their policy to meet the four star rating and upgrade ASAP, one couple turned up and told no room at the inn so had to stay at another hotel or a few days. Having said all that, I did meet some wonderful while I was there. This my own opinion Read less
