The hotel

Famed as the first tourist resort in the Maldives, this excellent hotel has a wide range of facilities with a fantastic array of restaurants serving cuisine from across the world. Located in North Malé atoll. Transfer time from airport: approximately 10 minutes by speedboat.

Hotel information

All rooms with air conditioning and fans, safe, flat screen TV, satellite television stations, outdoor standing shower, indoor standing shower, bathtub, bathrobes, hairdryer, mini-bar, complimentary WiFi, beach towels, premium amenities, iron and ironing board, and tea/coffee and hot chocolate making facilities. Superior Rooms are conveniently located, with either a terrace or balcony, open-plan bathroom, and 2 daybeds. With 1 queen-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 1 child/infant.


Breakfast Included: buffet breakfast or premium a la carte breakfast, dependent on room category booked. 

Half Board: includes dinner at the main restaurant (buffet). 

Full Board Plus: lunch and dinner at the main restaurant with beverages (a selection of soft drinks, canned juices, water, coffee, tea, wines, liquors and cocktails during meal times at the main restaurant only. 

Dine Around All Inclusive: lunch with a choice of two menus in three locations, with beverages. Dinner with a choice of seven restaurants, with beverages. Additional beverage outlets (Athiri, Kandu Bar and Fex) with a selection of soft drinks, canned juices, water, coffee, tea, wines, liquors and cocktails. Choice of excurions (glass bottom boat, Male tour, Sunset and Dolphin Cruise). Minimum 4 night stay.

Deluxe Bungalows provide privacy in verdant surroundings, just steps from the beach with an open plan bathroom and outdoor daybed. With 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults and 2 children/teens.

Beachfront Deluxe Bungalows are cosy and well appointed, with sun loungers on the private terrace by the white sand and sparkling ocean. With 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children/teens.

Garden Pool Villas are nestled in the tropical gardens, with a private courtyard, open-plan bathroom, and private plunge pool. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults and 1 child/infant/teen, or 2 adults, 1 child/teen and 1 infant.

Beach Villas are perfectly positioned for catching the sunrise, and generously spaced, with a separate lounge and an intimate garden spa tub. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults, 2 children and 1 infant.

Deluxe Pool Villas are spacious villas with their own private pool, a sitting room, and a private deck with breath taking ocean and garden views. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults, 2 children/teens, and 1 infant.

Family Villas are two-level villas, with stunning ocean views and secluded lounging. With 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults, 2 children/teens, and 1 infant.

The Two Bedroom Kurumba Residence is expansive, with a private pool / spa tub in both wings. Sleeping maximum 6 adults, or 4 adults, 2 children/teens, and 2 infants.

Beach villas are spacious and thoroughly cleaned daily, including the glass sliding doors (sunscreen prints). From villa to beautiful sandy beaches and stunning waters.. paradise. Wide selection of restaurants. All magnificent. Great buffet breakfast spread. Staff were great! Professional, friendly and discreet... it was noticeable that the staff were quietly present, which allowed for peaceful, relaxed and luxurious environment, unlike another island resort where staff were bustling around constantly (understand chores need to be done, but it was constant). Another point to note is how well turned out all staff were presented. All in line with the high standards set by the resort. Again I mention this as another resort with the large numbers of bustling staff, were less well presented and looked like they were wearing PJs. Very clear the staff had high standards at Karumba. Kasun from reception has exceptional manners and was very kind to arrange surprise delicious cake for anniversary. He was always receiving us wirh a smile and helpful in answering all our questions. .. Great attention to detail. Always lovely to be greeted each morning at breakfast by wonderful Alisha...again very processional and friendly. Pool is also another great option in addition to beach, bar food was tasty. The shark snorkelling activity by speedboat was sensational. It was stunning to see all the rays, sharks and fish. Managed to pass a small pod of playful, twisting, jumping dolphins too. This was a fabulous trip! Karumba is the original Maldives resort. It has the advantage of being close to the airport (only a 20 minute taxi ride). Staff was amazingly friendly. Naufal was especially helpful and always checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. We also enjoyed hearing about his life in the Maldives. Our accommodations were fabulous. We stayed in an upgraded bungalow - only a few steps from the beach. The outdoor shower was a special treat. Pros : Lots of activities (snorkeling, diving, etc). Several excellent restaurants. Book early! The New Year's Eve party was over the top! Accommodations were impeccable and dining options were quite varied. Breakfast buffet had everything. Cons : This is a small island, so after four days, we knew the island well. We didn't plan to leave the island, but might have visited other islands if we were to stay longer. Read less
