The hotel

John Muir Lodge is in an excellent location for exploring Kings Canyon National Park and giant sequoia country. A warm welcome awaits under the lodge's open beamed ceiling and in front of the stone fireplace, ensuring all guests get to feel right at home. Accommodation follows suit and you'll discover recently renovated rooms with hand crafted furniture and local artwork adding to the instant appeal. After a good night's rest there's nothing better than an early start to soak up the sun rising over the sequoias. Picnic supplies can be picked up at the general stores opposite the lodge and once you've packed up the fishing tackle, charged your camera and hit the trail, it's time to discover just what John Muir fell in love with way back when.

Location is fantastic. Lodge is fine - nothing fancy but serviceable. You pay for the location. One of our pillows had something gross on it. I took it to the front desk and they replaced it. Manager said she was sorry and would give a discount for that first night. When I got the bill in email...NO discount given (not surprised). The shower head… Read more

The shower head is pathetic...less than a 2-inch drizzle of water. There ARE low-flow showerheads that can give you a decent shower. This showerhead was awful. As for the restaurant at Grant Grove - skip it if you can - you order on a touchpad to get overpriced, mediocre (at best) food. We even decided to eat over at Lodgepole in Sequoia the second night rather than eat at Grant Grove again. Read less

Friendly, helpful staff! We had 2 queen bedroom clean and comfortable beds. Quiet surroundings except when everyone coming back at 7 -8 p , but just busy not obnoxiously loud. Clean bathroom & shower too. We slept well the nights we were there.

Food everywhere, on the tables, the carpet and my table had a slab of butter or similar on a chair! The food also comes in carry out mode. Personally, I wouldn’t stay here again, although there may not be many other places to choose from. Read less

Quaint older lodge in a great location in Sequoia! I understand many things need updated but the lodge is clean, unique and has many positives including a beautiful lobby with free coffee, tea and games. We loved it!

We had an amazing 3 night stay at the John Muir Lodge! The location is excellent, the rooms were clean and the lobby was nice with free coffee and board games. The WiFi worked great and the staff were kind and helpful. We would return again if visiting the park.
