The hotel

Anywhere that greets you with freshly cooked chocolate chip cookies on arrival gets our vote! Modern in style with a relaxed ambience, this is ideal for those wanting to be within easy distance of all downtown attractions. Towering 21 stories above the city, there’s some great views to be had as well as plenty of home-from-home comforts. Eats and drinks can be found close by but don’t forget to try the hotel’s own Justice Urban Tavern, a gastro pub serving Asian-inspired Californian cuisine. Rendezvous Lounge is another fine place to relax with five flat screen TVs and a full bar. Happy hour is 4:00pm-7:00pm daily so why not indulge in a cocktail or two? Last but by no means least, we want to mention the half-acre Kyoto Gardens on the third floor terrace – boasting waterfalls, ponds and a skyline view of the city, it really does offer that all-important Zen experience.

Came back to the Doubletree two years after my last visit, but glad to say that this recent visit was a vast improvement compared to last time (no double charge!) Stayed here twice during my LA visit: three nights at the end of May and two nights in early June. The first stay was interrupted by the chants and protests of disgruntled hotel workers, who blasted their demands over the loudspeaker from 6:30am to nearly 9am, but it only happened for one day, surprisingly. Perhaps their demands were met since there were no loud demonstrations when I returned a week later. The rooms itself were clean but dated and showerheads need to be replaced as one of them was calcified. Housekeeping did a good job except for one day where they forgot to clean, but it was resolved after calling the helpline. Will return to this hotel on my next visit to LA. Read less

The LA hotel strike is over for this hotel, and it is back to its normal self. I’ll second one of the previous reviewers’ comments … it’s not what the bad reviews say. And, believe me I’d tell you if it was. We stayed here several years ago, and the place hasn’t changed a lot. Our suite — the bath was top notch. Although the rooms could use a… Read more
The LA hotel strike is over for this hotel, and it is back to its normal self. I’ll second one of the previous reviewers’ comments … it’s not what the bad reviews say. And, believe me I’d tell you if it was. We stayed here several years ago, and the place hasn’t changed a lot. Our suite — the bath was top notch. Although the rooms could use a dab of freshening up, they are still in good shape. Everything was VERY clean and functional, and housekeeping did a great job keeping things tidy and stocked over several days. I recommend the room and breakfast plan if it is available at booking. The buffet is well done and the staff in the restaurant are very kind and attentive. That also goes for the front desk and service staff. I was impressed. It’s a busy place, and nobody on staff ever lost their smile or sense of humor. I felt safe in the hotel at all times. Is it safe to go outside? The service staff has you covered at the hotel. We walked around some and were fine with big city sense. However, this is downtown LA and we used a ride share service if we went any distance. The Japanese garden is still a very pleasant place for guests. Our plans involved frequent use of Union station, and the hotel is just a few minutes from it. We got ride share services easily. In the one exception that involved critical timing,,the service staff had us a cab in moments. I’ll leave it to you to judge for yourself, but I balanced upscale tastes with realistic expectations and it was great. Remember — we’ve been through a pandemic, chronic labor shortages and a strike, this place is doing well by comparable hospitality industry standards. Read less

I’d booked this trip to LA 10 months before going, I’d booked through Thomas Cook and the reviews were positive. When I looked on trip advisors and other websites I was surprised to see an increase of negative reviews about the hotel so I was starting to feel anxious and worried about what to expect, the common theme was that the rooms weren’t clean, noisy outside and lots of homeless people around the entrance. Despite this, I saw the hotel was just a place to stay as we’d be going out exploring for most of the day. The hotel was perfect for our needs and I feel that other reviews and guest leaving negative reviews appear to be picky or complain about the simplest of things.. The hotel was clean and spacious, and had absolutely no issues with any negative interactions with some of the individual sleeping outside. The staff were lovely, welcoming and polite! I’ve heard horror stories about downtown LA but you just need to be wary and plan what streets you’re walking down but apart from that, I loved my experience and would absolutely stay in this hotel again! We were on the 6th floor was barely any noise coming from the streets and was surprisingly quiet, although there was some protest happening a few streets away but it didn’t impact us at all. My stay was great. Me and my husband had a lovely king bedroom with a partial city view on a high floor. The lobby was beautiful. The location is perfect if you're looking to stay in LA. I was a bit thrown off by the room not having a microwave but it did have a fridge and I also didn't care to ask considering it was a one night stay.

Our recent stay at your property in LA was quite disappointing, especially considering it was our first time visiting LA. We chose this hotel because I am a Hilton Honors member, but I didn’t feel as if I was one after my experience at this Hilton property. As stated by some other reviewers, I, too, was charged for self parking and DID NOT have a car to park! I utilized rideshare services for my visit. The reason why I chose this property was because of its walk ability to the event that I was attending. I was sorely disappointed when I was told that the manger, Monica, added the charges and when I called to speak with her about it, I had to leave a message for her to call me and she never called me back to help clear up the matter. I had to send copies of my rideshare receipts to Sally and wait for a reply. Ummm, don’t you have cameras in the garage to show who is parking? And most properties will ask about your vehicle before charging you to park and tell you how to access their garage to park. None of this happened for me because I didn’t not have a car parked there! Again, the burden of proof was on me to confirm that I did not have a car parked there, instead of them having to prove that I did which they clearly cannot! So if this is some new scam, please beware if you book a room at this Hilton property. Furthermore, the elevators got stuck during our stay. The rooms were ok. We ate in the restaurant one evening and had a great experience with our waitress, Maria. She is the reason why I can give the service piece one star, otherwise this was a zero star experience. I am still waiting on my non self parking charges to be refunded. Read less
