Although there are plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, the hotel’s own Grange Restaurant is highly recommended, utilising local cuisine to produce a superb range of dishes. I have stayed at this hotel since it first opened under the Joie de Vivre brand, once or twice a month for business until my retirement a few years ago. I noticed some changes - not for the better - when it was taken over by Marriott. The JDV Citizen was a class act, with little touches that felt like a boutique hotel. After Marriott took over it slowly started becoming more corporate. Fast forward to 2024 and it is unrecognizable. The staff are poorly trained and not even familiar with their own floor plans. Having stayed here so much, I am very specific which rooms I prefer, depending upon the night of the week as the location is quite close to a number of nightclubs. The numerous discussions had with local staff were quite frustrating. They had no idea what I was talking about —and seemed confused that I would dare to have a preference. This, again compared to the JDV era, was a stark difference. We made our reservation for the Sunday night of Memorial Day Weekend, as we were attending a concert. We intended to have dinner with local friends but (seriously?) they don’t serve dinner on Sunday nights. We ended up with room service and the driest club sandwich I have ever had here —even though it has been on the menu for at least ten years. It used to be moist and flavorful, now it’s like cardboard. Lastly, we called at 10:30 to leave our breakfast order and were told we could’nt do so. We would have to call in the morning. Again, in all my travels for business or personal, I have never had this response. Who is running this place? Btw, Bonvoy Gold here. Read less

I stayed for two nights in a very comfortable and charming one bedroom, nicely lit but quiet even with the street down below. The bathroom was very clean and bright, lovely views out the windows. Daily breakfast at the hotel's Michelin Star restaurant included some stellar menu items. The Cheese Enchiladas (see photo) were enthusiastically recommended by our top-notch server Chris K. This dish is a perfect mix of flavors and textures - mozzarella, salsa verde, sunnyside up egg, pickled red onion, avocado, and lime crema…a winner! Thanks, Chris! Also want to include a shout-out to our helpful and pleasant server Malina, our hostess Grace, room service pro Morningstar, Jose at the bar, Hailey at the Front Desk and all the valet staff, who were just so nice to us! The hotel is lovely, although the lobby is rather dark. The front desk people are excellent and helpful. My room was absolutely beautiful and light with a comfortable bed and nice decor. The restaurant is delicious! I will definitely stay here again. Down one star because the expensive valet service is slow and rather useless. The service is $49-$59 per night and the valets do not offer to help with luggage or assist in any way. There is also not enough valet staff. It took forty minutes for my car to be retrieved.
