Our stay was June 28-July 5 2024 and we stayed in Rm 528. This very modern and chic hotel was conveniently located to almost every attraction and a short bike ride or transit / Uber ride from most neighbourhoods. We were treated like VIPs by everyone at Alton. This is a shout out to especially: Mary & Evie who made sure our room was perfect, and it was. Also a big Thank You to Louie, who sat us in the lounge with some wine as our room was not quite ready (we are allergic to pet dander so the room had to be thoroughly cleaned) and he sent up a bottle of wine for us when we were able to take the room. We also would like to acknowledge John and Dean (Bell Captain).Mary is especially our shining star for our visit. We saw her for most of our stay and we always had a lovely conversation with her. Our room was on the top floor, and it was spotless! The bathroom was very spacious. As it turns out, you can see the July 4 fireworks from this room as it faces in the direction of Fisherman's Wharf and you can see the fireworks from both Piers!!! A couple of things need tweaking; The shower faucet will continue to drip unless you set the handle just so. It takes a couple of twists and jiggles back and forth, but it will eventually stop. We suggest that a wall-mounted lighted makeup mirror be installed instead of providing the tabletop mirror. It is too short, and it won't set in place (it keeps spinning!!). We also would suggest more towel racks, for hand towels at the sink, and for the robes. There were not enough and it's only the 2 of us!!. We also had many breakfasts at The Hollywood Cafe nearby is excellent for Breakfast or Lunch. And we enjoyed some dinners at Surisan, a Korean-American restaurant across the street from The Alton. Original Joe's for Italian, and State Bird Provisions for tapas that are served Dim Sum Style. As we mentioned earlier, the location of this hotel cannot be beat. We loved our stay at Kimpton Alton. The complimentary beverages (wine, beer, cocktail) at Happy Hour, the complimentary coffees and water bar is so thoughtful. Thank you, this is really welcoming. We look forward to our next stay here, and will continue to stay at any Kimpton Hotel wherever we go. Read less

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay and would have rated it 5 stars except for the very worn furniture in the room and the dishes that sat outside a room down the hall for the entire 24 hours we were there. Pluses were the friendly employees, the wine social hour, the security inside requiring a key to not only enter the building but also the elevator. The clientele were upscale and quiet. The pillows were extremely comfortable and ac was excellent. Location was a block from Fisherman’s Wharf and next to several public transit options. We would stay here again! Read less

It’s hard to believe a hotel in the heart of the tourist district is so quiet and wonderful. The front desk staff are super friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the happy hour that was lovely. I didn’t realize we booked a rate with breakfast until we checked in. We were given 50$ vouchers for each morning that should have been more than sufficient for two. However each main entree was in the 25$ range and given the insane San Francisco dining surcharges, we went way over. The food was very good but the second morning the service was quite lacking. The room was perfect, though. Great bed, plenty of room for a city hotel and terrific shampoo, etc. We will be repeat customers for sure. Read less

We had an amazing stay at the Kimpton Alton! Both Clifford and Mary are exceptional at the front desk! Our room was lovely-the record players in the rooms are a fun touch.
