The hotel

Just minutes over the Bourne or Sagamore bridges is the Sea Crest Beach Hotel – an old favourite that has just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. The same great service is still available and the friendly atmosphere, but there’s plenty that’s even better than before. What will never change is the location – overlooking Old Silver Beach, an endless stretch of golden shoreline that really is nothing short of sublime. What have changed are the guest rooms – all have been sumptuously refurnished in soothing colours to bring you the utmost in comfort. The Ocean View Dining Room more than matches the beauty of its vista and Red’s Restaurant and Lounge, named after previous hotel owner and Celtic’s legend, Red Auerbach, is one of the hip and happening places to spend your evening. Just opened is the Ice-Cream shop – sure to prove popular with just about everyone or head to the pool bar and get the barman to whisk you up a refreshing cocktail. A wonderful place to feel big city stress just melt away, there’s plenty to see and do in the nearby area too. There are various golf courses or make like the locals and explore by bike.

A few friends had recommended the Sea Crest to me for a weekend stay. I wish I had read the recent Tripadvisor reviews. I paid the extra money for an ocean front room. We were placed in building 2 room 205 and abutted a sand volley-ball court. While yes, we could see the ocean down the steps below, this should be considered ocean view not ocean front. The room had a strong damp smell. The floor was constantly damp in the room despite the air conditioning running. There was mildew in the bathroom. The room was not clean. I understand staying a beach hotel there will be sand. However, there should not be sand in the bed at check-in. There were also black hairs on the sheets at check-in. We are well traveled and have stayed in many hotels with a similar price point. However what you see in their beautiful online photos is not what you get. Don’t be fooled. This hotel markets itself as luxury, but it is far from it. Read less

We were at the Sea Crest (for two nights - July 8-10) and had two rooms booked, one "ocean front" the other "ocean view". First off, this was not exactly an accurate descriptions for either of these rooms. First the "ocean front" was in building "2" and recessed back behind the volleyball court - when there were people playing, which there were, it was anything but the quiet, relaxing time allowing one to sit back and enjoy the view. We were on the first floor. It would have been fair to call this an "ocean view", but not "ocean front". The second room, #315, was listed as "ocean view" in building "3". This offered a tiny glimpse of the ocean if you stand a certain way and look out, but there were tall bushes outside the windows. This particular room offered no view except for the courtyard and parking lot. This might have been labeled as "obstructed view". Honesty in advertising is appreciated by clients. My greater concern was the cleanliness of our rooms, my room #204 had mold between the bathroom tiles in many areas. This is unacceptable and not what you'd expect to find at a resort charging these prices. The bathroom in this particular room overall needs a serious update. This is a beach resort, I realize that, however, the floor was "sandy" when we arrived, indicating it had not been cleaned very well prior. There were other issues as well; the maximum volume on the TV was very low, you could barely hear it, the "patio" only had one "adirondack chair" and one "sand chair" - not very conducive to relaxing. The bed was wobbly, and creaked even with the slightest move. Now onto the "Lantern" restaurant - While the quality of the food was good, the service was non existent except for a host instructing you on the prices of the hot and cold buffet options. Having stayed at many resorts and breakfast buffets, the expectation is that water, coffee cups and silverware would already be on the tables with servers pouring coffee, and water. There was silverware on the tables, but that was it. One had to get up repeatedly to get water, coffee, and whatever one was to eat. This is not the relaxing breakfast one would expect again at a pricey resort. One final suggestion for the beach itself. There are new lounge chairs, which are nice, however, anyone with even slight mobility issues will not be able to use them as they are very low to the ground. Having a couple of different types of seating would benefit and provide comfort for all patrons, which is what the hotel should aim for. We love the Seacrest, have stayed there many times over the years as Falmouth is our favorite vacation spot on the Cape. Unfortunately, the "creature comforts" that were a constant in the past, are seriously missing now. The place seems to have been decorated on a budget. Perhaps this is temporary as a new plan is realized for this property by the new ownership. I still love the Sea Crest, and hope that small changes can be made to ensure all patrons visiting have an awesome experience. Read less

The room is not cleaned. House keeping only made the bed after last guest. There was sand in the bed when getting in and you could see it wasn’t cleaned after pulling the covers back. The door to the terrace was stuck and the bathroom door didn’t close properly. The toilet kept running after flushing. We left after a few hours and never stayed the night. It’s the worst place I ever stayed at and I have traveled to many hotels. I’m not the first to complain like this. Read other reviews before booking, I’m sorry I didn’t. Read less

I have been coming to the Sea Crest for many years, both as part of a professional conference and on my own. This year, due to a very recent hip replacement, I needed an accessible room. I contacted the hotel about four weeks in advance, explained my need, added an additional night's stay, and had confirmation that I would have the accommodations I needed - because I could NOT stay there without them. I called early the day before to confirm and was told the accessible room could not be guaranteed. These calls continued throughout the day to various personnel with no resolution at 6:00 PM. Due to a need to leave very early the next day to manage my hip for the long drive - I had to cancel my attendance at a professional conference and my extra night. This was unacceptable and as a special educator for almost 40 years, it was unimaginable that this violation of ADA could even happen. Read less
