The hotel

Conrad New York Downtown is a statement hotel in a stunning location, overlooking the Hudson River from its spot in Lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City. As you step into its sky-scraping 15 storey lobby, it’s ready to wow: there’s the instant impact of its bold design; the multi-storey art installation by Sol LeWitt; the 24 hour fitness hub; and the sophisticated dining of ATRIO. But it does save some pleasures for higher floors. As you scale this all-suite hotel’s grand stairways, you reach more than 2,000 works of gallery worthy art; luxurious 2 room suites for all guests; and, the cherry on the top, a seasonal rooftop deck where small plates, ‘Prosecco & Ice Pop’ cocktails, and Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor views all vie for top billing.

However, the Guest Services manager stepped in and tried to find us rooms. The lady found us rooms on level 5 which were a few doors from each other. She then sent up fresh fruit and bottles of water for the inconvenience. We were also given a Conrad the bull soft toy for my son who has autism. The suites are very well equipped with the addition of a fridge, kettle and coffee maker. Service at the hotel was very good. We had a meal at the restaurant one night. Food was very good but I felt a little expensive for drinks. Especially the can of coke cola my daughter ordered which was over $9! It is located in a lovely area a short walk to the Hudson river which was ideal for us. I wanted my son to stay in a less busy area of New York. The Brookfield shopping centre was very nice as were the restaurants and bars around the Hudson river. I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a hotel near the Hudson river. Read less

We were upgraded to a corner king river view suite which faced the Hudson. The suites are very spacious as the hotel was once an Embassy Suites. We watched the Jersey City 4th of July fireworks right from our suite. There is also a roof top bar on the 16th floor. We had breakfast four mornings in Atrio, the hotel's restaurant. As a Hilton Gold member, my husband and I each received a $25 credit each day for food/drink at the hotel. We also enjoyed a nice dinner at Atrio on our first night. We liked the location and were able to walk to most places we visited. We enjoy walking and averaged 8.5 miles each day. We took taxis when we wanted to go to Midtown and back. The hotel is very clean and the housekeeping staff is very good. I liked the Byredo Mojave desert toiletries in the bathroom. While the hotel is not as luxurious as the Conrad St. James in London, it is a nice, clean hotel with spacious suites, some of which face the river, and attentive staff. The location is quite quiet, especially for NYC and there are many great restaurants and great shopping nearby at Brookfield Place and Oculus. Read less

We were charged circa $700 per night for a so called deluxe suite. To say we were underwhelmed by the suite would be an understatement. Room service here is simply dreadful. We were so hungry after a long flight and looked forward to a nice meal in our “suite” and just to be able to relax—the food sent to us was first of all the wrong order then… Read more

We were so hungry after a long flight and looked forward to a nice meal in our “suite” and just to be able to relax—the food sent to us was first of all the wrong order then when they finally did get it right it was simply inedible. Service we found was not to a 5 star level. Read less

Our trip to New York had been in the planning for almost 12 months and our stay at the Conrad had been booked since the end of 2023, so we had spent the first half of 2024 with equal amounts of excitement and trepidation about whether we had made the right decision for our first time in Manhattan and given its vast array of hotels. Thankfully, soon after arriving, we realised that any anxiety was completely misplaced and we had definitely made the right decision. The reception atrium is vast and impressive, so it raises the stature of the hotel from the time you enter, and it looks equally striking looking down from the 15th floor where our room was located. We chose a king suite with a river view, which was well equipped, spacious, and very comfortable, and had a separate bedroom and lounge area, each of which can be screened off via sliding doors. The bathroom is also arranged across two rooms with a WC and vanity unit in one and shower in the other. The hotel is in a fantastic location, with good transport links providing easy and convenient access to the various attractions and the hustle and bustle of NYC, but is in a quieter location than many uptown hotels and being so close to the Hudson allows pleasant and relaxing walks or the opportunity to just to sit and watch the ebb and flow along the river. Whilst the general area is quieter than other districts there are plenty of restaurants nearby as is the Brookfield Place mall, so there is plenty of choice when looking for somewhere to eat or flex the credit card and undergo some retail therapy. That said on a few evenings after long days walking around the sights of Manhattan, we chose to eat in the hotel's Atrio restaurant and had cocktails at the rooftop Loopy Doopy bar, where the food and drinks were excellent. We hope to have the chance to return to the Conrad at some point in the future, but until then, we would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fabulous stay in New York. Read less

The staff at the hotel made the stay amazing. Stephanie at the concierge desk was the best. Not only did she wrap my niece's gifts that my daughters bought, she gave my kids crayons and stickers to decorate and make cards. Just an awesome experience.
