We travel a lot and this was really a bad experience. We also had to line-up and wait 10-15 min to get the elevators up and down. They have too many rooms for the level of service they can provide. Rooms are ok but tiny. I also asked for them to organize a transfer to the airport and they wanted to charge me 35% more than for the way in. Really not a good quality for the price you pay. We stayed at the Melia Innside in the same trip and it was way better. Read less

The hotel is situated in a great spot - easy to walk to Times Square, MoMa, and Central Park depending on weather. Easy to get to different subway and bus lines. Wait time for elevators seem to be a problem in the morning around breakfast rush hour. We did not eat here and generally avoided the early/mid morning so had no issues, but would factor that into your morning start. Motivated housekeeping, we slept in a couple of mornings and learnt to put out the do not disturb sign to avoid a knock around 10-11am. When they saw the sign they left notice as to how to contact them when we were ready to have the room made up. Good storage for such a small room, reminded me of a cruise ship. Easy check in and check out, all staff were friendly. Very busy lobby (happy hour helps!), and busy check in with lots of families, and school groups. Majority of guests were European, but understandable as Riu is a Spanish chain. Inquired via the app, as to extending stay for 1 night, received call from front desk who explained they would need to patch me though to customer service to get a quote. Customer service told me to go to the front desk but finally provided me with info after some persuasion. So a bit of a fail there, but otherwise a great stay. Read less

Breakfast on the first morning was a disaster . Hotel didn't inform us you have to go down to the lobby and queue up to go in the lift to the 5 th floor and then queue up again to be shown to a table . We went straight to the 5 th floor and got shouted at and accused of trying to jump the queue . Plenty of choice at breakfast but is very busy . We were in the 11 th floor but found the fans outside the hotel were noisy so we purchased ear plugs. Handy for times square and rockafellar centre . Avoid the pub across the road . Cost me 30 dollars for a pint of beer and a glass of wine . Read less

The service was absolutely excellent and the room was very spacious-especially for NYC. The front desk staff was very accommodating when I needed to add an extra person to my room for a few days. The bell staff is so polite and friendly. The hotel is massive-48 floors but the team makes you feel like you are in a small boutique hotel. They could… Read more

Overall, the experience was good. Rooms and lobby are very clean. The location is good, if that’s what you’re looking for. The elevator situation can be a little ridiculous. Overall, the experience was good. Rooms and lobby are very clean. The location is good, if that’s what you’re looking for. The elevator situation can be a little ridiculous. I did not purchase the breakfast but was often in the lobby between 7:30 and 8:30 and never saw a huge line. You hear EVERYTHING from your room- street noise, people in their rooms, etc I did have a frustrating experience. I arrived at 10am. I was informed that check in was at 3pm but I could have the room at noon, unless I wanted to pay to have it now. I passed and left my bags. I returned at noon to get the room key and the lady said that check in is at 3pm, but I could get the room at 2pm, unless I wanted to pay. The gentleman that had told me noon was working right next to her and told her that yes he had in fact told me that. The supervisor came into play and said that no, I wouldn’t get the room until 2pm. When I explained that if the first gentleman hadn’t told me noon, I would have kept exploring nyc and not wasted time trekking back to the hotel. Eventually, they handed over the keys to the room that was ready all along. Very odd situation, considering the first employee was there the entire time telling them how he’d told me that I could get the keys. Odd. Also, I booked with Riu because they were fantastic with customer service in past experience. I felt some loyalty to them. I have since contacted customer services twice and have yet to hear back. I guess it was a fluke the first time when I had good service. Overall, ok experience but they can do so much better. Read less
