Not sure who this hotels demographic is but if you want to arrive at reception to feel like you’re gatecrashing a gathering that even the people there don’t want to be at, then it’s absolutely for you. Rooms clean (tiny) and housekeeping and door staff excellent as was the guy who organised a car for us, sadly that’s where the good service ended. We were checked in by guy with round beaded glasses, immediately asked for credit card and charged £500, three days into trip another guest was complaining about not being told about room credit at reception, I hadn’t been told anything about either the tax or credit at check in, asked girl at reception, long hair, highlighted, 8am on 8th July, she said well you should have read about it on the website, that was it, booked through Virgin so not direct, she was rude and put the blame on us, so out of the $200.50 taxes and fees I was charged, we got a $7 Diet Coke. There is loud music and people up late, so definitely not a family vibe and as I paid over £500 (Sterling) a night not including breakfast, plus an extra $35 per night, plus occupancy charge and sales tax, I’m not sure who it is aimed at? Rooms are tiny even by NYC standards, no mini bar, no water in room, three coffee pods for 5 days, absolutely nowhere to put one suitcase down let alone the four that the room had in it (it was for 4 people) really expensive, bottle of water and crisps in hotel was $16 and even if you wanted water you had to buy a $10 bottle to fill it. It was so hot but the air conditioning is SO loud you can’t sleep, and and aside from the view (which you pay extra for) it was a really poor choice, so go somewhere where you’ll get the hotel experience you expect for the price, as so many previous reviews refer to the room tax not being explained and the disinterested staff, don’t believe the response where they tell you they will provide better training, it’s a greedy money grab made worse by staff who are probably sick of hearing about it and it definitely shows. In conclusion visit Times Square BUT stay somewhere else if you can and if you do stay in Times Square, don’t stay here, you’ll end up feeling annoyed and ripped off and wishing you’d read the previous reviews, they know there aren’t many going to need valet service or hire bikes, it’s just money for nothing and even worse when they don’t even tell you about it at check in so you find out after and they won’t even allow you to use the 4 days of $10 you didn’t know about. Absolutely AMAZING establishment. Alex and Karina in the bar / restaurant were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They made our visit great from jump, helping us get food for the kids and some overdue adult beverages for the adults! The last time I was in that hotel it was still a doubletree and used to be our go to hotel when visiting NYC before the renovation. Sadly, gone are the days of all suites hotel and great breakfast. Once the Conrad rebranded, we had to find another hotel to stay and decided to give Tempo a chance. The renovation is beautiful. The hotel new and looks like it, with great technology supporting it. Also, everyone we interacted with was great and provided a great service. Tempo does not provide upgrades to Diamond members which was a surprise to me (though it really shouldn't, but never stayed in the brand before). That said, the room was small. Think on NYC small and make it smaller. Not only it was small it was badly designed. While the bathroom is large which is great, the room is so small that if one person sits at the desk, the other person way to the bathroom or the door is completely blocked. On the positive side you can get breakfast with the daily credit Hilton provides. On the other hand, it is pretty basic and not that great. What works for the hotel is its location. But if you don't have to stay on Times Square, there are plenty of other choices that would be more bang for your money. Despite the positives, we will not be back, because the room size and layout, and lack of any meaningful upgrade. Read less
