The hotel

The Knickerbocker Hotel is a historic gem right in the middle of New York City's Times Square. Opened back in 1906, this luxury spot has been a go-to for celebrities and big names over the years. It's famous for its stunning Beaux-Arts architecture. After being closed for a while and going through some changes, it made a grand comeback in 2015 with a major renovation. The room was very spacious, 2 queen beds for myself and my daughter. Lovely large shower room with double sinks. Diptyque toiletries. The bed linen is excellent quality and the beds comfy - we slept really well. Housekeeping were very good and also offer a turn down service. We stayed room only which worked well for us. The roof top bar is lovely, although too cold for us to stay outside for long. We only had a couple of asks of the staff - one was to request a better hairdryer, which was delivered to our room immediately. The second was to assist with private transfer back to JFK and luggage storage after checkout. Plenty of staff about in reception willing to help and guide guests. I would stay again and recommend the hotel. Thank you. Read less

The front desk was rude, ignoring me and then talking so low I had to ask several times for the person to repeat themselves. They acted like I was annoying them the entire time and made no effort at all to engage, never smiled, etc. really not the person you want working for you at check in. They put me in a room immediately opposite a gigantic neon sign, on the third floor…a room with nothing but sheers - no room darkening curtains. No offer to relocate me when I asked - again they made it clear that I was bothering them. I travel to NYC frequently, and frequently to Salesforce who had recommended the hotel. Never again and I will let Salesforce leadership know how I was treated at their recommended hotel. Save your money - this is NOT a special experience, the rooftop bar is just average, and the staff makes the whole experience just bad. Better places for you to drop $650/night in NYC Read less

I booked this hotel 2 months before my trip to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. I specifically booked a room with views of time square only to find out there was scaffolding recently constructed on the outside obstructing those views. When I asked the front desk upon arrival, the young man at reception was less than apologetic, nor did he attempt to offer any way to make it right. At ~$500/night, that was unacceptable. Overall, the property is overrated in my opinion. The room was smaller than the photos with only one small window to the street. Elevators were slow, the lobby workers and doorman weren’t particularly friendly either. They never opened the door for me - just stood there matter of fact. The breakfast buffet left much to be desired too. The eggs and other items were pretty bad, especially for price. There were a few positives - the location is prime and the shower was quite nice. But otherwise, I’ve experienced better service and amenities at a holiday inn or similar property in the Midwest at 1/5th the price. But as the subject line indicates, I won’t be back. Read less

Comfortable bed, good bathroom, attentive staff. Drawbacks were slow elevators, awkward window view into an office building, and some dated-feeling decor (carpet was fraying in the bedroom, for example). But great location, good staff, comfortable room, and the toiletries were a nice touch.

So here's my overall take: If you like Times Square, then this hotel is perfectly located. The hotel is very nice, the rooms are a fantastic size, especially for a NYC hotel. We had some issues when we first checked in (blinds were on the floor, air filters needed cleaning, safe battery was low) but they sent someone immediately to fix it all and he even stayed and decided to vacuum the A/C filter. Room was clean, good storage available which is also hard to find and the bathrooms were very nice. We had breakfast included with our package and it was on the fourth floor where after returning on day two, I was greeted by Gania, who came and said hi to me by name, and remembered that I liked Almond Milk with my coffee from the day prior. What?! In a hotel with hundreds of rooms? That's impressive, but that's what she was. Her service was impeccable, always smiling and seemed to be around exactly when you needed her. On day three, I showed up at 7 when they opened, just to sit and drink a coffee. They had my coffee in front of me (with the almond milk) within a minute and left me to peacefully read while I waited for my husband. The buffet is DELICIOUS and had everything you could want and it was great quality. We also visited the rooftop for some appetizers and the food was good as was the service. I also want to say that Paola at the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful, and I loved chatting with her. Overall, a great experience if Times Square is where you want to be. We had a courtyard facing room which was perfection because you could not hear the street noise at all, and when in Times Square, it is otherwise incredibly noisy. Read less
