Fairmont Ajman

Ajman, United Arab Emirates

Virgin rating

The hotel

Fairmont’s fabulous outpost in Ajman, this luxury beachfront retreat brings all the glamorous décor, gourmet dining, and grand amenities you’d expect from a Fairmont — in a setting you might not expect in the UAE. The next big name in the emirates, Ajman may be 30 minutes from Dubai, but it’s poles apart in its subtlety and serenity. The Fairmont’s arrival to its palm-swept beachline signals Ajman’s ready to compete with its neighbours. A grand getaway, it brings eight restaurants and lounges (taking you from Italy to the Caribbean), an infinity pool fringing a private stretch of sand, and an activity list that covers everyone in the family, from those after spa treatments to those who’d prefer splashing about on a floating off-shore water park (and even little guests who’d prefer making sandcastles at their kids’ club).

This is not a all inclusive hotel. There is one restaurant which is all inclusive the rest are not. The food is not hot just tepid and very poor choice in the one all inclusive restaurant if you want anything else you have to pay for in other restaurants. Sports bar not included in all inclusive pool bar food not included in all inclusive. Only several drinks included on all inclusive from pool bar. Served out of bottles which are not cold and in 35+ c heat you want a cold refreshing drink. Drinks are mostly flat by the time they are next poured as they are left with lids off in heat. Not allowed to bring drinks into lobby to drink which actually seems a nice area to sit in but you can't with a drink. Sunbeds are always taken up as people are tipping the pool guys to keep them beds even though they don't use them till late afternoon. Some days you will see towels on beds and no one uses them all day. Will not be returning to this hotel Read less

It's a shame I cannot give 5/5 for this hotel as the staff are exceptional - all of them. From check in, to the beach and restaurants and the lifeguards - to a person they are so friendly and contactable. We are a middle aged couple who stayed for 12 nights and were blown away by the staff - they were 5/5 without doubt. The fuss they made of the kids especially in the Spectrum Restaurant was brilliant. We arrived at 10am, but were allowed to use the AI immediately and get changed to enjoy the day. We lucked out and got early check in at just after 1pm and so were very grateful for that. Food is great and if you like Indian cuisine as I do - then you could have it three meals a day if you wanted. Choice is great in the Spectrum and so good that we did not bother to eat at any other venue. April and Princess looked after us at every meal and always got us a table immediately - just be aware of the busy times they state. We are beach folks and had read the reviews about how hard it was to get a sunbed. As an early bird going down at 7am never once did we have a problem - mind you we choose to drag onto the beach and not use an umbrella. There is a massive issue that hotel management need to get a grip of to help Yusuf and hos hardworking lifeguard team. Stop beds being reserved by his team and stop guests reserving beds for the beach and pool at the same time and then not using some for hours on end. You keep saying in replies you will do something - well time to actually do something as it will make their jobs so much easier. I get they will lose the backhanders for reserving the beds - so maybe up their wages to compensate and make life easier all round.... I wonder if hotel management realise how hard they are making the job for Yusuf's team - either let people go onto the helipad for pictures (that's what we all want to do) or put some signs up in English and Russian and tell people not to go on there. Would stop them whistling and waving 30/40 times a day and let them concentrate on watching out for people.... The beach is amazing and the sea great to just relax in - sadly the inflatable got taken down for a few days due to some high waves - but no issue as keeps people safe. The pool is the main area for me where the hotel is not 5/5 for me. Too many missing tiles on the bottom of the pool and around the edge of the raised platforms and too many broken slats around the pool as well. We saw a few people get cut and so again management need to act for guest safety and to support their staff who don't want to be wiping up blood and giving first aid that can be avoided.... Our favourite area was the pool/beach bar. The staff there work so so hard its amazing, but guests could make things so much easier for the staff and themselves. Shaker was an absolute pleasure to deal with and an amazing asset to the hotel and brand. If you have an employee of the year, then I'd like to see the winner if its not him as they would have to be superhuman too. Always smiling, always flat out and always remembered people preferred drinks. Give the man a raise, indeed give all the pool/beach bar staff a raise as they don't stop. Hotel management/owners - you are letting your staff down and stopping the hotel being a real five star and getting 5/5 reviews everytime. Some ideas to help: * deal with sun bed reservations once and for all and stop paying lip service in your replies to reviews * put signs on the causeway by the helipad or just let people go up there for pictures! * get the broken tiles and boards around and in the pool replaced - would be a few hours to get it done * have one list of drinks that you can have for all inclusive - not different ones at different places and allow the drinks in all the venues inc the sports bar (11-11 still fine) * allow people to eat once a stay at the Italian and the Turkish Restaurant (supplement on the expensive items) and you may just see people then pay to go into them again *have a water container at the pool/beach bar as well as by the towel booth as the bar staff get fed up telling people they need to get water the other side of the pool when they want water with what they've just ordered at the bar Guests - you are allowed to take your empties back to the beach bar and not just leave them and you can also put cans and bottles into the many bins. You are also allowed to say please and thank you to the staff who work so hard its amazing. Its sadly one nationality who are to blame - not everyone but a good number! TUI - to tell me there was no building works nearby is just a lie. 24/7 a new causeway is being built next to the hotel and so light-sleepers wear ear plugs or you near lorries beeping and stones dropping all night. That said to see the old sand ship every day or so drop sand makes you aware how Dubai was built into the sea - so that was a bonus. Having said all the above, I'd go back like a shot and the staff are the reason why - led by Shaker, April, Princess and Yusuf. Read less

We came to the Spectrum restaurant this evening. Thank you Ali for all of your help, particularly with the 'white wine' scenario. We appreciated your swift intervention very much and it certainly didn't go unnoticed. Customer service at its very best.
