Stayed at sunshine moon palace resort. Staff was friendly. Spa was great, dinners in the evening at the Italian, Indian, and Japanese restaurants were on point. You do need reservations. I read many reviews before our trip. I found most of them to be very true. There is a strong sulfur smell coming from the ocean. It’s worse in some areas. We smelled it everyday while walking .5 miles to the pool. Very few went in the ocean. Rooms are dated but not too bad. Pool service was great. It was clean and the staff were very professional. An adult only pool is needed for non Grand guests. The food was consistently bad. We compared the flavor and quality to airplane food. We tried several restaurants, pool service and room service (bad food). Service however was good. We tried several “alcoholic” drinks all over the property. The should just say it’s a dry hotel. To say they are watered down is being generous. For families who want to cheaply vacation with their kids I think this is a resort for you. For adults traveling without kids who want good food, good drinks with alcohol and relaxing pool time it’s not the resort for you. I’ve stayed at better. Read less

Please don’t pay attention to the bad reviews, moon palace is an excellent resort with extremely hard working staff who cannot do enough for you. We are still here as I write this and have come as 2 families of 4 - with 4 teenage boys between us. We have had no issues booking any restaurants for all of us and the food has been incredible with lots of variety and options all day. The beach is lovely as it can be, they work hard to battle the seaweed, it is unfortunate that this climate change issue has affected the water and beach, but this isn’t the fault of the resort! We paid money to go into the grand for the day which was good value as can use the water park and restaurants. We have also booked some trips and looking forward to the cenotes! Read less

My aunt is a elite member of the resort and invited all of us to enjoy a family trip. We had a total of 6 bedrooms so we were a large group: One of the things that caught my attention was that there is discrimination towards Mexican tourism. My married last name is Polish while the rest of my family had their reservation under their Mexican last name. They were all dismissed on every complaint we experienced telling them to go to Public Relations department; they did that and nothing was solved not even an apology. When I did the complaint on their behalf they did apologize to me, and even got a visit from the concierge Victor Hugo G; so there was an obvious disparity and discrimination. Another thing I noticed related to this situation, they only enforce the dress code with Mexican tourists. We went to have dinner at Arrecife (delicious and superb restaurant probably the only positive one we experienced on our 7 day stay) I called ahead of time to make sure we weren’t kicked out for being underdressed. Their dress code for guys is no shorts, business casual and closed shoes. To my surprise many people were not complying with such dress code and were only enforcing it with people who looked like local tourism. We had the same experience at sunrise resort at the Pier restaurant. Two people of our group weren’t let in because they were in shorts. Mind you it was lunch time and this is a restaurant right next to the pool. I was able to walk in right with my swimming suit (no cover up or anything) and many other tourists were in bikinis and trunks. I could go on and on about the terrible dining experiences we had at La trattoria, Riviera Maya restaurant, los Caporales and Manglar. We also had an unfortunate situation at the golf club spa in which one of our family members had a second degree superficial burn (hot stone massage) and nothing was done about it. The only thing that made this trip memorable was that it was the first trip since 2018 when most of our family members got the chance to get together; it is very difficult to manage people from the USA, Mexico and Dominican Republic. Overall we decided that next time it would be better to rent an airbnb hire a private chef, a bar tender and hire a cleaning crew. It would’ve end up being around the same (if not a bit cheaper) that wasting money on such resort. I was considering becoming a member as well but this was a complete turn off and declined. Read less
