From start to finish we didn’t stop smiling. Incredible hotel with amazing staff. So much work is put into this hotel to maintain the standard and it doesn’t go unnoticed. I want to start by saying our concierge was amazing and attentive from start to finish. We at quite a few restaurants with hibachi being first and French being a close second . Oceania leaves much to be desired. The sea bass was overcooked and also my shrimp. My husband and I paid $175 for a Bali bed and while laying relaxing with her speaker with volume that was not high at all he was told he need to turn it off . We were also told this while in the swimout and again the speaker was not loud a worker walked through the bushes to him to tell him to turn off . Neither time was there a complaint from others around us. I realize that this property is in the jungle and mosquitoes are prevalent however if this is the case the resort should look into having more indoor activities especially at night when the mosquitoes are very bad. I would also suggest a dj being at the main pool that plays a variety of music . Read less

I had such high expectations for this resort!! We came for our honeymoon back in Oct, we had been told all about how accommodating the staff is and what to expect. Don’t get me wrong the resort is beautiful but, We were there with some UVC members and were pretty much sold on signing up on this trip based off their experiences and talking us into it prior to the trip. Until we went days without being able to get ahold of our concierge finally another staff member helped us with our needs, but basically said yes I will look into that and never came back I guess ours was out so he wasn’t at his desk to help us sign up for excursions and such. We got a sign on the door for our honeymoon no other special treatment which is fine but we had asked about paying extra for stuff and were told they would “spoil us” we had turn down service 1 of the 6 days we were there that’s it. I had to call 3 times to have our room cleaned for the day so I could have clean towels and yes the red light was off, we payed preferred and never were told what preferred even got us. Our UVC member friends, did not get their upgraded room like they should have, had blood on their sheets, kept having the door opened by staff even with their red light on, they were SHOCKED at the entire experience and ultimately we decided UVC was not worth our money. We are still so sad about the experience based off so many ranting and raving reviews that we feel like we really missed out on such a good experience and thinking maybe it was just a short staff situation and we will give them a second shot. We arrive in September I’ll definitely post my review on how this experience goes. Read less

Secrets Akumal is a stunning resort. The staff was very attentive. The accommodations beautiful and very clean. The one HUGE red flag was the sales pitch. After traveling for 12 hours we were welcomed in the hotel where they took our luggage and checked us in. After that we were escorted down some stairs where we were stuck listening to a sales pitch while we waited for our luggage that they took from us 5 minutes ago.... They wanted us to spend 90 minutes with them and in return would offer incentives, spa credit ect... Anyway we kept telling them we where not interested but where stuck there for 20 minutes waiting for our luggage. All we wanted to do was get to our room to get settled. We told the gentleman that we were not interested at all. Then toward the end of our stay we received 2 phone calls on different days one of which woke us up to see if we were coming to the breakfast pitch we told them we were not interested in. It was very frustrating experience. Also with our package we were told we would receive a $200 resort credit. That turned out to be very misleading. Turns out you got little paper coupons that just saved you $20 or $40 off of premium alcohol, private dinner, or the spa. Now the rest of the experience was a dream. The restaurants we visited were delicious. Our favorite by far was Hitsumtsu shout out to Antonio who was our server and had great drink recommendations. Oceana, we had Edgar who was helpful with food allergies. Bordeaux was stunning but we had to wait a very long time for our food. The morning breakfast buffet at Market place was always delicious. The lunch buffet also made our jaws drop! It was delicious and there were so many amazing options. The entertainment team was awesome. We did the salsa making class with Benjamin and Renee, they brought so much energy. The Sashimi class with Jonas (it was his first time doing this class and he was awesome). On our last day we did the bike ride with Kevin and Renee, they were very knowledgeable about the beautiful sites they took us too. I don't know what you pay Renee but you should double it. He was always so welcoming and had so much energy. He is very musically talented as well. Loved his performance at Akumal night. He has a real love and appreciation for his culture. They had activities every night. Lots of different shows. We really liked the pirate show. They also had a silent disco which was super fun. Our hotel room was beautiful and always kept clean thanks to the cleaning staff. The nightly turn down service was a nice surprise. Our concierge was always checking in on us to see if we needed anything. She got us a banner for our door on our anniversary which was very sweet. We spent most of our time on the beach. Shout out to Francisco he was always checking in and offering to refresh our drinks or bring us a bite to eat. The beach did have a serious sea weed problem (we knew we were coming during seaweed season) they were sort of trying to clear it. On our last day there we woke up and the beach was almost completely clear so that was nice. They have good snorkeling there. Most likely to see sea turtles by the protected reserve (buy the bar on the beach). We just swam up and down the boundary and saw a total of three. The best snorkeling is on the other side of the resort by the preferred club area. Overall we had a wonderful time. I do think there is a much better way to offer the sales breakfast pitch without being so forceful. It was definitely a huge turn off. Read less
