Very rarely write reviews but wanted to add about our recent experience as I always read others before booking. We did have a lovely holiday and met some really lovely staff at sugar cane who were obviously really keen to ensure their guests were having a good experience. The grounds are beautiful and rooms serviced at a great standard. Yes it is a distance from facilities but shuttle service was excellent. I have to say we were on room only basis and ate in the restaurant a couple of times and we're really disappointed with the quality of the food had to send things back several times and I am not a particularly demanding customer. As other reviewers have commented lots of waiting and seemed like staff were under lots of pressure at times none serving at the bar. My real complaint came as I checked out and was told that I owed extra despite being told that I had fully paid the bill a couple of days beforehand and not used any facilities since then. I was told it was an error but had no acknowledgement that it was the fault of the provider not mine in fact it was only that I asked clarification several times that I was finally asked to pay the excess. It just seemed that there had been a lack of effective communication between hotel colleagues or accepting that a mistake had been made put a real downer on the end of our holiday and feel that I wouldn't return or have confidence in recommending this holiday to friends or colleagues. A real pity for some of the employees who are so committed to providing an excellent service ..sorry. Read less

This hotel could be a lot better with a few changes. When we arrived we were given a welcome drink a nice spiced rum, the receptionist was a bit stern and not particularly helpful. I asked about the All inclusive what was / wasn't included and any restrictions. All I was told was everything gets added to your room then the A.I bits is taken off. So to now answer my own question, everything apart from the top shelf spirits i.e grey goose vodka and a brandy, are included, any cocktail you want even if its not on the menu is included and also any extra bits at lunch i.e cheese on burgers etc is also included in the A.I. The hotel I found really well maintained, gardens and the rooms were cleaned every day and were spotless. my main grip is that the pool area is tidied at the end of the day so dirty glasses etc are left and tidied up by the pool guy in the morning, so when your having breakfast you can see left over drinks etc by the pool. it would take a few minutes every evening to tidy the area up. The staff were hit and miss, some staff were very rude and seemed annoyed if you asked for a drink even though they were serving at the bar, or in the restaurant when they took your order were just miserable which made my wife feel very uncomfortable. other members like Karene on reception and Rashidi were exemplary, always smiling and happy to help or serve. The service was a bit disappointing as well, breakfast was never open at 7:30 it was always 10 to 15 minutes late and even then a lot of stuff wasn't put out and had to be requested, such as juices, bread for toast, yoghurts and sauces. egg station was also very slow with only 1 server and 2 rings. lunch and dinner were slow and any drinks ordered at the table never arrived, we were there 12 days and I think twice our drinks arrived, all other times after getting fed up or our food had arrived I had to go to the bar for drinks. The 2nd to last day I overheard the couple in front having breakfast explained to them, this never happened to us, to my surprise we could order poached eggs for breakfast we just had to ask the server, this was the same for the BBQ night, which was held in the main restaurant, we only found out by chance that extra meats additional to what was on the buffet could be ordered with the servers, this was after we had already gotten our food. Simple communication lacks. The pool bar was rarely staffed so you had to go up to the main bar which also wasn't staffed very well, often neither bar was staffed for long periods of time. i've never experienced anything like this, we even had to ask at reception for drinks as had been waiting over half an hour with neither bar staffed, we also ended up buying some beer at the local shop ( not great for an all inclusive hotel) as the hotel ran out several times, this was also the case just after the bar opened at 10am, also ran out of vodka and soft drinks a couple of times. On a positive, the food was always of excellent quality although there seem to be only 2 different menus so a lot of repetition and lack of choice, the buffet nights were ok but always the same food just with a different fish of the day. The hotel is about 8 minute walk to the sea but a short steep hill on the way makes it fairly hard to walk. Unfortunately I would not return to this hotel UNLESS, the staff were a lot happier, the drinks were always fully stocked with bars staffed and a better choice of menus. Read less

Booked this with my wife as part of our 30th wedding anniversary celebrations, and we loved it, however when we first arrived we were totally underwhelmed. Just the general decor, a tourist tax that we were unaware of, the offer of "complementary drink" even though we had booked as all inclusive, and the fact that there was a small problem with our room and had to be put in the room next door temporarily. We were also surprised just how remote the hotel was, even though we knew that it was off the beaten track. That said, the staff from the head manager to the cleaners were incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and the week we had there was tremendous. The food there was absolutely fantastic. We were unlucky that we were unable to have the barbecue nights by the pool, but there's nothing we could do about the weather. The service at meal times was quite mixed. Sometimes you could be waiting ages for a drink from the bar with your meal, but I put that down to the culture there more than anything, nobody ever seems to be in a rush. My only real complaint with the place was the poolside bar. There was only one day when it was run well throughout the day when Rashidi was working, but I believe they had an issue with staffing problems due to sickness, so perhaps it was a one off. Whilst a tad dated, the rooms were kept spotlessly clean every day, and we were provided with fresh towels every other day. The shuttle but into the town or beach was great, and we were sorry that we only made real use of that at the back end of our week. Overall it was wonderful, the staff are that friendly that it makes you feel bad about having to say anything negative about the occasional lackadaisical service, but I just feel it's worth pointing out. Speaking to fellow guests there are so many return visitors of 18-25 years, which I suppose speaks volumes, and I would definitely return myself. Thank you, it was a wonderful holiday. Read less
