Image of the Tripadvisor rating 2 star hotel. Don’t ignore all the poor reviews

I’m not normally one to leave negative reviews, but this was the worst hotel that we stayed at while we were in Thailand. I’m not normally one to leave negative reviews, but this was the worst hotel that we stayed at while we were in Thailand. I have no clue how it has a 5 star rating - the rooms are what I’d expect from a 2 star hotel. The room we checked into when we arrived had such a strong mildew odour that I could barely sleep the first night. On top of that, the door to our room didn’t shut properly which meant that it was full of bugs and mosquitoes, and the toilet didn’t flush properly. The room was also incredibly dirty - showers and windows were full of mildew, floors were dirty, etc. We ended up asking to change rooms after the first night due to the smell. We were moved to a different room which was slightly better, but still had an underlying mildew smell and the same cleanliness issues. Besides the room, the other major issue we had was location - our room was located near the top of the resort and was quite literally a hike to get to from the beach, which meant we were strategically planning our trips out to minimize the hike back to our room. From the beach to Ao Nang, they advertise that it’s a 15 minute “walk” via the “monkey trail”. What they don’t mention is this “trail” is straight up stairs (extremely rickety and uneven stairs) so if you have any mobility issues don’t count on using the path. They offer a boat shuttle to town, but it docks at the opposite, far end of Ao Nang, which means you need to either pay for a taxi, or walk 30+ minutes to get into central Ao Nang. They also expect you to book the shuttle at least 8 hours in advance - who plans that far ahead on vacation?? Prices - because of the location and difficulty getting into town, it’s most convenient to eat at the bars and restaurants on site, however they were exorbitantly expensive. About 3-4 times what you’d pay in town. The one saving grace of this hotel is the beach. It really is beautiful and rivals Raylay beach next door, but doesn’t make up for the cost they’re charging to stay here and the extremely poor facilities. Read less

It is one of the most scenic hotels I have stayed in. It is an awesome property with a private beach. It has a thai Japanese and continental restaurant. Veg food is available with limited addition of Indian food. Total luxury stay if you take club room even better with spa and jacuzzi. Great place super team.

We weren’t sure where to walk to when we arrived at the shore of Centara Grand. When we were at the lobby, the staff told us to sit for awhile outside Lotus Restaurant. She informed us about our room etc and told us that all the drinks in minibar is chargeable. She did not realize that we are club members as I booked the club ocean view room. As a result, we missed out on the club lounge and did not take any drinks from the minibar on the first day. It was only on the 2nd day when I went to lobby to ask about what club members are entitled to then I realized we missed out on a lot of benefits. We had a full day tour from noon to nighttime on the 2nd day so we had to miss out too. We checked out on the 3rd day and again another staff told us that if we consumed the drinks in the minibar, we had to pay. I had to tell her to check the system properly because we are club members. She then acknowledged it. We paid extra for nothing.. it was such a pity that we were not treated like a club member. Secondly, the power was totally cut off on the 2nd night and when it came back on after a few min, the tap water and shower water was brown and had a rusty smell. I contacted the reception about this and they said there was a technical issue and it’s fixed now. But the water still had a rusty smell even tho the color changed back to normal. We had no choice but to use the drinking water to brush our teeth and wash up.. Thirdly, I asked for drinking water since 9am on the last day (3rd day) and did not receive it after waiting for 100min, I had to call three times to the lobby reception to ask for the status.. Overall, it was quite a bad and unpleasant experience for us. I will never go back again Read less
