Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach

Big Island, Hawaii

Virgin rating

The hotel

Located on the grounds where Hawaii’s most famous king once ruled, this is a stunning hotel, contemporary in feel with top notch amenities. Overlooking one of the best snorkelling bays in Hawaii, it’s a must for water sports fans as well as those who simply enjoy a beautiful beach to lie on. Shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance but there’s plenty to keep you entertained on-site. During high season, the Island Breeze Lu’au is one of the Big Island’s most popular events. As well as a sumptuous Hawaiian buffet to feast on, with dishes cooked in a traditional underground oven, dramatic Hawaiian and Polynesian entertainment ensures an unforgettable evening for all. Before the feasting and dancing even begins, outrigger canoes carrying the royal court glide past the ancient Hawaiian temple on the seaward border of the hotel, an incredible spectacle you’ll want to capture on camera! Honu’s Restaurant is also a treat, overlooking the beachfront and complete with firepits so you can linger long after the sun has set. For more casual fare, Billfish Bar serves dishes such as calamari ‘fritte’ and seafood cobb salad as well as signature cocktails. To work off all that delicious food, there’s a recently opened tennis centre with two championship hard courts as well as hiking and biking through glorious state parks.

Management was rude. We had an incident where some friends of ours who were staying here also stepped on wet concrete, slipped, and fell, hurting their backs. Management was rude. We had an incident where some friends of ours who were staying here also stepped on wet concrete, slipped, and fell, hurting their backs. There were no wet concrete signs, just a "Wet floor" sign used for mopping. Not only did management and security handle it horribly, but they also kicked these guests out with nights left. When we pressed about their negligence they told us "To be quiet or we too would get kicked out" But this is just the start. Multiple times, I requested towels, toilet paper, and body wash. I would call it in, and no one would come. We received what we had asked for after going down to the front desk multiple times. Lastly, you pay a lot of money to stay at these resorts and even more to enjoy the restaurants and amenities. Both times we ate at the resort restaurant, the food was cold and overpriced. There are plenty of other places to stay in Kona; if I return, I will never stay at this property again. Frankly a one is too high of a score and if I could I leave a ZERO. DO NOT STAY HERE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE. Read less

This property is in a great location, Kona- Hawaii Island downtown harbor area. You will be able to see a great deal of what the Hawaii Islands have to offer! Hotel is covenient to waterfront stores, resturants and shops! Most of the resturants serve bar style meals at standard $20-$30 but the more upscale resturants I felt was over priced for the quatity of the food and the taste. The Beach is very cozy with onsite free snorking and beach chairs provided for guest on a first come basis. Discounts on Luau fo guest as well. The Water filtration stations was a nice perk! 1 pool and 1 whirlpool stays open until 10pm. This property has a conviniece store, coffee shop, Hawaiian Ice shop, shopping mall and musuem gallery of art. Resturants and onsite resturants selling a la cart and buffett options (a bit pricey). Pool side bar with bar food and snacks and discount happy hour food and drinks! Walmart, Kona Coffee Shop KFC and other restuarnts, eatery options are in nearby shopping centers and within walking distance. To get around the Hawaii Island, it's good to have a Jeep or some form of transportation so you won't have to pay additonal for drivers to take you everywhere you go! You can still walk the strip and see the local downtown inner harbor area without transmprtation. The hotel staff and house keeping are very very friendly and welcoming! Parking is a fee $35 per day not too bad and a resort fee $22. There aren't many oceanfront or accessible beach property's in Kona for an affordable nightly rate so I think choosing this location is a plus! As I visted nearby resorts in Kona, I realize that they are in much more of a remote area without many stores in walking distance! King Rooms are standard King size with nice walk-in showers and pull out sofer, the balcony's are very nice, which I stayed partial oceanview! The courtyard view give a picture view of the downtown and mountain area, I would recommend the stay! Read less

This is our 4th (and last) time at this hotel and over the past 8 years the prices have gone up continually and the service has gone down. The only onsite restaurant is exorbitantly priced, the rooms are shabby, the building is old, it has been near impossible to get the room tidied. I am not impressed and sadly will never be back. $35/day to park on site. $58 for a 13 year old to eat breakfast at the only restaurant. Extra charges for everything. This is not what Kona used to be, and not what I expect from a Marriott hotel. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Rude security staff and nothing done by management

Have been poorly talked to by the bald security guy manning the parking entrance. Very rude, impolite and both verbally and physically threatening. Complained to management - head of security didn't thing that shocking... nobody apologies- that's a weird way to treat clients Oh, and they couldn't do anything because it is a contracted company… Read more

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Central to restaurants & cafes

Central in Honolulu to many restaurants & cafes. Room size adequate, clean & quiet. Staff were very helpful sorting out a accomodation error. A very pleasant stay. We found booking entertainment & day trips nearby. Fabulous roof top garden restaurants within easy walking distance.
