Fairmont Ajman

Ajman, United Arab Emirates

Virgin rating

The hotel

Fairmont’s fabulous outpost in Ajman, this luxury beachfront retreat brings all the glamorous décor, gourmet dining, and grand amenities you’d expect from a Fairmont — in a setting you might not expect in the UAE. The next big name in the emirates, Ajman may be 30 minutes from Dubai, but it’s poles apart in its subtlety and serenity. The Fairmont’s arrival to its palm-swept beachline signals Ajman’s ready to compete with its neighbours. A grand getaway, it brings eight restaurants and lounges (taking you from Italy to the Caribbean), an infinity pool fringing a private stretch of sand, and an activity list that covers everyone in the family, from those after spa treatments to those who’d prefer splashing about on a floating off-shore water park (and even little guests who’d prefer making sandcastles at their kids’ club).

Our recent experience at Fairmont Ajman was shockingly poor, especially considering its reputation as a five-star hotel. On our departure day, the hotel staff failed to load our luggage into the taxi for our trip to the airport. We only realized this error after reaching the airport. When we called the hotel to inform them, they acknowledged their mistake but failed to offer any help. Rather than promptly sending our luggage to the airport, we were left to handle the problem ourselves, and we had to pay extra for the taxi driver to return to the hotel, retrieve our bags, and bring them back to us. This lack of cooperation and responsibility was beyond disappointing and entirely unexpected from a luxury establishment. This mishap almost caused us to miss our flight, adding unnecessary stress and expense to our trip. A five-star hotel like Fairmont should have processes in place to avoid such issues or, at the very least, show accountability and provide immediate support when they occur. Sadly, this experience has left us questioning our trust in the Fairmont brand. Read less

The brunch is amazing and the team is very nice and professional and welcoming. Farid is one of the team and he is very nice and helpful. I would recommend Fairmont brunch by the pool, beach, and lovely music. The beach is so lovely and chilling.

Ajman isn’t Dubai. So travellers shouldn’t expect the same levels of luxury seen on its streets. It’s a very locally focused Emirate, the poorest of the seven if it can be called that. Ajman isn’t Dubai. So travellers shouldn’t expect the same levels of luxury seen on its streets. It’s a very locally focused Emirate, the poorest of the seven if it can be called that. Fairmont is a top brand so I was somewhat surprised at how rundown this hotel is. The fake grass is threadbare; paint flaking. In terms off service it’s a 4/10. No one has so far approached us asking if we’d want food or drinks at the beach or indeed the pool which I think is very surprising. The room is fine although twice we have asked for our broken aircon to be fixed but so far no one has bothered. The reception did say we could move rooms but that’s not really an option when we’ve decanted our belongings and would have to go through it all again. Consumables like tea bags not replenished by housekeeping which again is pretty poor as it’s a basic requirement. Pool staff are very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast is decent though very busy. It’s not a cheap resort and in terms of value for money I’d not be recommending the Fairmont Ajman to anyone. If a hotel can’t get basics right it does not augur well. The Saray next door, run by Marriott, is a far better proposition and I’d imagine has aircon that works! Read less
