The hotel

Infused with the charm of its sugar plantation past, this refined hotel retains its colonial style. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel occupies a delightful setting in the Bel Ombre nature reserve, in a tropical garden through which the Citronniers River flows. Suites are spacious, decorated in 19th-century style but with an impressive range of amenities and a private butler at your service. The Seven Colours Spa is a serene haven, with treatments to harmonise body, mind and energy. There are two lovely pools, with access to an additional pool at C Beach Club, water sports in abundance and a nearby championship golf course. Guests have access to 12 restaurants and eight bars across the Domaine de Bel Ombre — there's a wonderful selection of dining at Heritage Le Telfair, including Annabella’s on the banks of the river with an interactive show-kitchen, and Gin’Ja serving Pan Asian cuisine on the beach. Treat yourself to a meal at Le Chateau de Bel Ombre, an enchanting 19th-century manor house, or head to the trendy lifestyle hotspot, C Beach Club.

Where is it

At Bel Ombre, on the mountainous south coast, surrounded by a nature reserve. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route.

158 suites on 2 floors, all with 24-hour butler service. All with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, balcony or terrace, flatscreen TV, telephone, complimentary WiFi, mini-bar*, tea-making facilities, Nespresso™ coffee machine with three capsules, safe, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. Deluxe Suites with 1 queen-size bed or 2 twin beds, plus a sofa bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

Board basis options

Half Board option: includes breakfast at Annabella's (possibility of having complimentary Continental Breakfast in room – tray charge applicable). Dinner at Annabella, Le Palmier, C Beach Club, Savana (buffet) at Heritage Awali (as per opening hours), O'Grill at Heritage Golf Club, La Reserve Golf Links Restaurant and Lakaz Mama at Kazalala. Other outlets within Domaine de Bel Ombre available with a credit of Rs. 1,500 per adult per night: Ginja at Heritage Le Telfair, Chateau de Bel Ombre, Infinity Blue, Zafarani, Kuzini and Boma at Heritage Awali.

Gourmet Bliss option: includes breakfast at Telfair’s main restaurant, Annabella's, or at C Beach Club. Lunch around Domaine de Bel Ombre restaurants as per operating schedules: Ginja, Le Palmier, Cavendish and La Plage (beach service) at Heritage Le Telfair, C Beach Club, Heritage Golf Club (includes either at clubhouse, a halfway snack or food & beverage cart), plus Infinity Blue, La Reserve Golf Links Restaurant and Lakaz Mama at Kazalala. Brunch every Sunday at C Beach. **Dishes with Lobster, Foie Gras, Wagyu beef, Caviar and Chef specialities are with a supplement. Afternoon tea and ice cream at the Kiosque Gourmand. Dinner around Domaine de Bel Ombre restaurants as per their operating schedules: Annabella, Le Palmier and Ginja at Heritage Le Telfair, Zafarani (adult only), Infinity Blue, Savana, O'Grill at Heritage Golf Club (as per opening days), C Beach Club and Le Chateau de Bel Ombre. Gourmet Bliss option also includes free access to the Sports & Fitness Centre; aquagym as per hotel schedule, unlimited green fees at Heritage Golf Club (Le Chateau Golf Course) 18-hole championship course, including a 9-hole PAR 3 course (excluding equipment and lessons). One round of golf at La Reserve Golf Links - including welcome gift, shared buggy with GPS, range balls & halfway refreshment Complimentary GPS-equipped golf cart for every round (maximum one per room per day). Gourmet Bliss option also includes free daily unlimited green fees at Heritage Golf Club (Le Chateau Golf Course), complimentary practice balls and golf cart with GPS for every round of golf (maximum of one per round per room per day). One round of golf at La Reserve Golf Links - including welcome gift, shared buggy with GPS, range balls & halfway refreshment) for every 7 nights stay, (Cumulative, i.e 2 rounds for 14 nights stay). Wellness programme with daily selection of group activities. Land and water sports (as described on hotel’s fact sheet). Live music most evenings across the resort, as per the entertainment programme.

Wellness Bliss option: (supplement per person per day is applicable) includes a 15-minute consultation with the resort's wellness expert, plus one wellness experience each day from the following:

- Choice of 5 massages (such as relaxing massage, tension relief massage, detox massage

- Choice of 3 body treatments Choice of 5 private mind and body sessions (such as Yoga, Tai-Chi, Pilates, Qi Gong)

- Choice of 5 health treatments (such as osteopathy)

- Private fitness sessions with a personal trainer

- Workshops and learning (such as correct posture, art of breathing, art of healthy eating).

Wellness Bliss added value: additional group sessions available every day as per activity program, plus in-room wellness amenities (yoga mat, spa bathroom amenities) and healthy dishes and drinks available in all restaurants (supplements may apply, depending on meal plan booked).

Please note: minimum 7 night stay applies. Wellness Bliss experiences must be taken between 9:00am-4:00pm each day, sessions are non-transferrable and missed appointments cannot be replaced.

Room upgrades

Deluxe Sea View Suites are as Deluxe Garden View Suites, but with a sea view.

Deluxe Beachfront Suites are directly on the beach or on the first floor with a balcony, with panoramic beach views and 1 queen-size bed or 2 twin beds plus a sofa bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children.

Junior Suite Garden View rooms overlook the lush gardens and river, and are on either the ground floor or first floor. With a canopy queen-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 1 infant.

Junior Suite Beachfront rooms overlook the beach and sea, from either the ground or first floor. With a canopy queen-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 1 infant.

Senior Suites are available with either garden views or sea views. With a separate living/dining area to the bedroom, a canopy queen-size bed, a dining table and sofa bed, sleeping maximum 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children.

Ocean Suite Beach Front rooms are on the ground floor only, with direct access to the beach. With a separate living/dining room to the bedroom, en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower. The bedroom features a canopy queen-size bed, and the living room a dining table and sofa bed. Sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults.

Please note: a baby cot can be added on request. Children are classed as under 12 years.

New adult-only zone (available to book from 1st November 2024)

A collection of adult-only suites, located near the Serenity pool area, with added in-suite extras and resort privilages including:

- Dedicated Butler service offered within the heated pool adult-only zone

- Access to a Tiki Bar with F&B service and snacking (located on the beach next to the adult-only zone)

- Pool amenities: towels, sunglass cleaning service, fruit skewers, an ice chest (flavoured water served all day round), and an afternoon service of ice cream cups.

- Espresso machine in all suites with box of capsules replenished daily

Food in the hotel, as well as, golf courses was tasteful. However, the staff, management and service cannot be summed up in a positive manner. There was no manager to get a hold of the workers. Every single day we would hear different stories of what is and what isn’t included in the package we bought. The staff was under qualified, creating chaos. The orders were getting mixed, hidden extra charges were applied to bills. We had to be very careful about what we sign as there were a lot of these “mistakes”. Overall, good hotel, very poor service. Would not come back as dealing with the employees was tiresome. However, if you’re looking for a good view, golf, or beaches, you should visit. Read less
