Renowned for its stunning turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and vibrant marine life, The Hotel Riu Atoll offers a tropical paradise getaway on the private island of Maafushi. Where is it

Located on the private island of Maafushi. Transfer time from Malé International Airport: 40 minutes by seaplane (remember to pack light for the seaplane transfer as luggage allowance is 20kg plus 5kg hand luggage, per person).

24-hour All-Inclusive: all meals and snacks. Local and imported beverages served 24-hours a day. Regularly restocked mini-bar.

Cleanliness, service and food quality really is outstanding. All the staff we had interaction with couldn’t have been any more helpful, nice and enthusiastic to deliver top class service. I can’t remember any individual names but really everyone is so good. We stayed in room 3026 an over the water suite and our house keeper surprised us with some towel art that we had never seen before and of course made the room immaculate every day. During our daily walks around the island it amazed me how little man made rubbish was on the beach (some days I saw none) it really is paradise. We would definitely return here. In one word...spectacular! The journey to the island was an adventure, 2 planes, a domestic plane and then a speedboat. It all ran seamlessly and we were very well cared for as we arrived at Male airport. Sitting on top deck of the speedboat to arrive at the island was such an amazing experience. It all ran seamlessly and we were very well cared for as we arrived at Male airport. Sitting on top deck of the speedboat to arrive at the island was such an amazing experience. We had a beachfront room, villa 20 and the views from the patio were simply stunning. To be able to walk out of your bedroom to the clearest, warmest sea, out to a coral reef without having to swim was unbelievable. The snorkeling was like swimming in a tropical fish tank. we were lucky enough to see a big Reef shark twice and 2 baby sharks most days The top of the island was our favourite place, the 2 tides meeting was something really special to see. We loved the sunset DJ watching the sun going down listening to great, chilled music. The food in the main restaurant was gorgeous, well presented and varied. The 2 a la carte restaurants were fabulous The main and steak restaurants are not air conditioned and it can be so hot during meal times....tip - take a fan. We had rechargeable fans from amazon that were about £10 each and they were absolutely priceless in their use! What really made our stay so special was the staff. It sounds like a cliche to say they are so lovely and so helpful but it really was true. They are just the best. They work so hard and always have a smile and time for a chat. The pool and swim up bar were great. Non motorised watersports were plentiful and we never had to wait We did the 3 hour private boat trip which was worth every penny,we saw so many dolphins and swam with a turtle which was my dream If there are any negatives, it would be some very small points..... take your own hairdryer, the hotel dryers are not powerful at all. And there could be more worktop space in the bathrooms as the lighting in the bedrooms was not enough for getting ready. The night time DJs could read the room better, their music was very sameish for a very mixed crowd.It was definitely aimed at the teens/early 20s and they lost the crowd on all but the white party night. But these are very small points in another wise fabulous week in our little corner of paradise Read less

Mostly we hung around the sports bar in the evening where Marchie and the team Would serve you drinks The staff at the hotel get to know you very quickly, remembering What you drink as soon as you get there, actually when they see you coming, they start making it. Restaurants are very nice. Steakhouse is the best. shout out to Phillip who became like a good friend Always singled us out in the restaurants To say hello. Hotel room was lovely just the Queen size bed was uncomfortable in the middle as It is two bases pushed together With flimsy plastic legs when you sat on the bed, it could move. Beautiful Island. Very well laid out. Loved the staff. Spacious clean rooms. Good food, something for everyone to enjoy. Would definitely come back. My only criticism was watered down juice.

After 3 flights and a short boatride,we finally arrived at our island destination. What a beautiful place. Through reception with ease and straight to our room .this was perfect,just what we asked for.everything we needed,big bed,drinks in a fridge,great WiFi all over the island.our balcony overlooked a white sandy beach,beautiful.from our room we could walk about 20 yds to the sunbeds which were to be ours for 2 weeks.5 yds away was an infinity pool with swim up bar,not rowdy at all.about another 25 yds to the buffet restaurant. The food was brilliant lots to choose from always laid out well,never a mess like some buffet restaurants.there was always a smiling face to take us to a table and get us our drinks. There was 2 a la cartes,italian and steak which were really good,best steaks I've had for some time.The sports bar was open 24hrs for snacks,sport TV,pool,darts and drinks. The entertainment was good for a remote island.live band every night,dj,occasional quizzes.we had a white night and a safari night,with live music and disco.table service or go to bar it's upto you.all the waiters were ace. On the beach there was pedalos,kayaks,stand up boards and snorkels and masks.the sea was 3 to 4 ft as far as you wanted to walk out.The sea was lovely and warm and the beaches were lovely and clean. We moved into an overwater villa for the second week.this was amazing, with a bigger bathroom,good-sized balcony with double sunbed and table and chairs and steps into the sea.with optics above a well stocked fridge. The staff everywhere were brilliant,a credit to riu,very friendly and helpful. This was definitely 1 of our best holidays and we'll worth the cost.we will be back one day. Read less
