The hotel

With a relaxed vibe and those intoxicating bay and ocean views, you’ll get the quintessential Monterey holiday at this waterfront boutique hotel. It has a privately-owned beachfront, ideal for making sandcastles and toasting s’mores by the bonfire. Keep the camera ready too — if you’re lucky you may spot seals, sea lions and breaching whales. The hotel's soulful tapas bar, with more sweeping views, serves up craft cocktails and beers on tap. And the casual waterfront restaurant is a great spot to watch the sun set over the water whilst tucking in to fresh seafood.

I highly recommend this place, but I would steer clear of the 4th floor. During my stay there, I encountered a significant issue with my room. Upon checking in and heading to my room, I found hair left behind, which was disappointing. While I appreciate that the housekeeper was very friendly, it was clear that she wasn't using the proper cleaning chemicals. The restroom had a strong odor resembling urine or wet dog. I noticed she was only using water in her flat mop and had a spray bottle filled with plain water—no disinfectants or cleaning agents at all. In contrast, my brother stayed on the third floor, where the room had a noticeable scent of bleach and fresh cleaning products. Is there a standard for cleanliness, or is this friendly housekeeper just relying on water? Additionally, I experienced unusual delays in getting my room ready. An inspector was taking an unnecessarily long time to approve the room, even though the front desk confirmed it was clean and simply needed inspection. This all happened on Friday, in October. We requested to speak with the housekeeping manager, but only the director was available, and unfortunately, she never followed up with us. The front desk staff mentioned that the housekeeping manager is more attentive and would be in soon. I was advised to return after my trip to Carmel. When I got back to the hotel, I was exhausted, but at 10 PM, I checked my voicemail to find a message from Manager Guillermo. He called to apologize and mentioned he would be back on Saturday after 10 AM. I simply wanted a relaxing stay, so I made a quick trip to Home Depot for sanitizing wipes and took the initiative to disinfect the entire room myself. I understand they just opened and are still finding their footing, but I believe they will gradually meet Marriott’s high standards. On a positive note, the food was excellent, and the front desk staff were incredibly friendly. The coffee in the room was surprisingly good! The Assistant General Manager was also very personable and worked hard to ensure my wife and I had some great drinks prepared. Thank you, Bass! Read less

We had drinks at the bar in the lobby, probably best view in Monterey. The bartender Avery was amazing. We went in for 1 drink &stayed for 3. We went back another night , Avery was not working, wasn't the same , we… Read more

Location is great for those with ocean view rooms but this place falls short of its price point. Bad decisions include 1) power washing the pool area for hours on a sunny Saturday afternoon (the noise was overwhelmingly horrible), 2) no bathroom/changing area near the pool, 3) no robes in the rooms, and 4) no food or beverages available on premises from 11am till 5 pm each day, and 5) no out door patio heaters. Also it can’t escape its basic architecture - it’s a motel and all rooms open to public walkways. You can’t leave your shades open without being on display to all who walk by. Not a terrible place but not worth the current price point. Read less

Everything was perfect Dennis in the restaurant made that meal outstanding. The was well equipped and spotless. Came back from a day of adventure to a tidy and restocked room. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. I could hear the surf while I slept. I recommend this hidden jewel.

The whole experience was amazing and fruitful! Loved the new rooms, me and my wife came last year. I came by myself this year. We remember this bartender named, Avery. I got to see her again! She always takes great care of all the people she runs into. We always look forward to seeing her every time we come.
