Queen Kapiolani Hotel

Honolulu, Oahu

Virgin rating

The hotel

Named after the beloved wife of Hawaii’s last king, Queen Kapiolani is something of a Waikiki landmark, paying homage to Hawaii’s majestic heritage and unique culture with a modern twist. Overlooking the sandiest stretch of Waikiki Beach, guests can enjoy stunning views of Diamond Head from the balconies of their newly renovated rooms, each and every one of them furnished in breezy Island style. As a change from the beach, laze beside the pool instead, dipping in every now and again to cool off. Although there are restaurants all around you, the hotel’s own Kulana is highly recommended, not just for buffet favourites but for its sweeping panoramic views! Pre-dinner, chill awhile at the Deck Pool, sipping on your favourite cocktail – a Mai Tai perhaps?

The rooms were super clean, and I loved the Bath gel/ Shampoo/ conditioners in huge bottles! it makes a difference when you have girls taking a shower. This Hotel is super convenient and close to all your food needs, coffee needs and everything else. The best place for brunch is THE DECK- the ONLY hotel in Waikiki where you will have the beautiful view of Diamond Head. The construction of the pool wasn't an issue! couple steps out the hotel and you are at Waikiki beach... Why go the pool when you can hit up the beach! Read less

OK, misrepresenting rooms and fees horrible. We asked for an ocean view studio…. Wait until you see what we got. I just wanted to know why they gave us the room they did without even giving us an opportunity to negotiate at the beginning. for the room we were promised. I felt, and still do, knowingly cheated. We were booked in to this hotel by our travel agent, 2 nights before taking the Pride of America cruise around the Hawaiian Islands and 1 night on our return. Apparently we were upgraded to a better room on both occasions. The room was of a decent size and the beds were comfortable, but the carpet was not as clean as expected, there was no water bottles in the room as described and the safe didn’t work. It was also noisy from outside, albeit the first night was Halloween, so no sound proofing evident. The staff were not the usual personable desk staff you would expect to find in The US. It is only a 5 minute walk to Waikiki Beach but right at the end of the main strip. Did not eat at the hotel as there are numerous options available along the front, including the magnificent Cheesecake Factory. It was an ok experience overall, but would not have booked this hotel if booking independently. Read less
