Rabot Hotel from Hotel Chocolat

The hotel

On the site of the oldest cocoa plantation in St Lucia, the Rabot Hotel is definitely one for the chocoholics amongst you! Having said that, for the rare being that doesn’t delight in the dark stuff, this is pretty wonderful too. In a stunning location, with magnificent views of Gros Piton, luxurious mountainside lodges combine relaxed St Lucian charm with the ultimate in contemporary sophistication. Echoing the rich tones of freshly harvested cacao, dark woods exude cosy warmth with four-poster beds, a rainforest shower and freshly made chocolate treats (of course!) definite highlights. The spa too utilises the area’s natural treasure with a variety of creams, oils and scrubs, all made on the premises, specifically designed to harness the rejuvenating powers of the pod! You can even learn to make chocolate yourself at the Tree to Bean experience – truffle anyone? If you’re a foodie, you’re in for a serious treat at the Rabot Restaurant. Start the evening with a delicious mango, chilli and white chocolate margarita before perusing the delights on the menu, which is pioneering to say the least, exploring both the savoury and the sweet nature of chocolate. Fresh seafood is also to be found in abundance, accompanied by the finest of wines for an experience that is nothing less than sublime.

Great service and restaurant. We love the luxe lodge rooms, open air setting, lounging in pool area, and tree-to-bar experience. We hike/walked to the sulphur springs on a rainy day as well. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Restaurant delivered the best meals we had on the island. A romantic and quiet retreat for couples. Highly recommend.

The pool is very tranquil and not busy due to the size of the hotel. There is not always a member of staff at the bar and sometimes towels are hard to find. However, every member of staff at this hotel is wonderful. They are attentive, polite, great to chat to and a fantastic team! The breakfast food was phenomenal and the dinner meals were also very good, albeit a bit large for us. The luxe lodge was lovely. Lots of space and a full range of amenities. There are quite a few stairs so be conscious of this if you have mobility issues. We did the free project chocolate tour but they started without us which was a shame. The rum tasting was 30mins late which we wouldn’t normally mind but due to the heat it felt quite a wait. The rum tasting itself was great and Joel was very knowledgable. As it was our honeymoon and we had informed the hotel we did somewhat expect a congratulations or even just a chocolate or two for the occasion in the room however we didn’t get anything which was a shame. Other reviews did state they had quite a good welcome. Overall this is an amazing hotel and especially good for a short stay on the island. Read less

The staff were almost exclusively charming, friendly and fun. Breakfasts were lovely with fresh fruit and a good choice of trad and local foods. Main restaurant was pricey but plenty of choice. The estate is readily accessible so you can hike through the cacao growing areas up to the Project Chocolat site where they produce the cacao, with its bar and cafe areas. We created a simple but wonderful picinc and ate it over looking Rabot Lake. They offer a free tour which is well worth doing too. There is clearly no beach, but you are offered access to the local Paradise Hotel Beach, by regular shuttle, which has the facilities you'd want and a decent spot for a swim or snorkelling. Couple of small gripes, the infinity pool has a great view and is a great relief on a hot day, but its not a swimming pool and sometimes the staffing was a bit lax, ie no towels or water, but that's hardly a major problem. A truly exceptional experience, not one that can be duplicated elsewhere. We were welcomed at the airport and transported to the hotel which took about 45 mins. Met with much needed welcome drink, and whisked to our rooms (we were given an upgrade). The room (lodge) was quite unusual, with open views of the piton mountains, very spacious and felt like we were in the middle of the forest. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was exceptional, we are vegetarian and the chef prepared some remarkable and tasty dinners for us which were off the menu. Highly recommend letting them know if you have dietary preferences.
